Yellow goo running out from under hood

Second post, first thread--does anyone have yellow goo running out from under the hood. It looks like rustproofing that is liquifying. I spoke to the dealer and they said it is happening to alot of their cars and that BMW oversprayed. They told me to wait until the weather cools down and it all runs out and then they will replace any trim that cannot be cleaned.

Kind of a lame aproach. Is this happening to anyone else?

Yes, it happens

It will happen when the car is hot or when the weather is hot. Eventually it will stop. I took it back to the dealer to remove after it seemed to stop coming out. It will keep coming out for awhile.

But it does come off. I used some wd-40 and it came right off without leaving any marks.

Not to be an *** but this keeps popping up. If people used the search function they would find that this is the cosmoline that is used by BMW to protect the car during transatlantic shipping. Blame for it still being there goes to the VDC but more to your dealer for failing to properly detail the car prior to delivery to you.

People have used WD-40 to remove it, I've heard bug and tar remover works as does hot water and a little pressure.

Agreed. I would demand a thorough detail from the dealership. My understanding is it sometimes gets into the recesses of the hood interior, just waiting to creep out on your finish. So maybe they'll need to jet it out somehow.

Yes, I do. I suppose "cosmolene" would bring something up. Knowing this bunch, I think I'd be afraid to search for "gook!!" "Yellow" would have yielded Mellow Yellow threads. "Hood" shouldn't come up at all because we all know it's a bonnet. I think the OP was desperate!!!

It seems that summer heat has this stuff seeping out over time. Even w/ a full detail it might be back next week...or tomorrow!!! In any case, stay at it...it will stop seeping eventually. I know a guy who went after it w/ q-tips and some solvent!!!

Right. Which is why I said

They should do that for you.

Is your dealer doing that? That would probably solve the issue as it seems no matter where I notice it I can trace it back to the inside of the bonnet. I have had some looked like it was seeping from the front door weep holes, too, but that seems to have subsided.

I haven't got my Mini yet (it's somewhere off the coast of Central America). But I will ask the dealership to flush out the hood recesses if I see the following.

It's good to know we've come far enough that someone can post a title like that innocently. :-)

I wouldnt, if I was you be too eager to have that yellow stuff flushed out of those areas . That is your internal sprayed rustproofing. I know that is a pain in the A$$ for a while for a new car, but it will soon stop. besides it is easy to remove and you will have much better long term rust protection. I remember the older cars that did not have that protection.

I have yellow gook leaking all over my car! It's in random places. When I pick it back up I am going to ask for a free detail, because it wasn't done properly to begin with!

Mine has this issue as well, and you can still see a residue from it. Maybe I'll stop by the dealer tomorrow about it.

It's assinine that this stuff doesn't get cleaned up during vehicle prep.

It takes about 20 minutes to take care of.

Just go along the edges of the hood with qtips, toothpicks, and paper towels to remove the bulk of it.

Repeat about a weak later.

I used goof-off to remove the spooge from the wheel arches and grill.

If you paid a prep fee to your dealer, ask them for a refund since they didn't properly prep the car.

You're saying that is not cosmoline in that picture? I'm pretty sure that is the source of everyone's 'yellow goo', and the concensus is that it's cosmoline.

Ah, ok, I'm guilty of over-reaction here. I found the following. So, it seems like the prudent thing to do is get it off the painted visible portion of the hood interior before it seeps out onto the exterior of the car.

There's really nothing your dealer could have done about it, unless you wanted them to drive the car far enough to heat the goo up and get it to run, then clean it off before you took delivery.

Open your hood, and wipe the goo off the spots where you can see that it's run.. You may have to do that a couple times, but eventually all that goo that will run will have run..

I think it's cosmolene. Why would they spray an anti rust inhibitor on that was impermanent?

I believe you are correct. This also drips out of the doors and you will see it on the side sills from time to time. It is normal, and comes off easily with soap and water.

A club member has a GP and it was "leaking" goo this weekend. I never did see it on my March '05 build.

Comes off easily, but leaves it's mark on my car.

I've got a scare on my wheel molding from this crap. Soap and water didn't take that away. I'll try some of the advice offered above and post my results.

Someone else on another thread about this issue mentioned peanut butter for taking the marks left by this mess on the molding. I didn't want to be the ginny pig,:impatient but I'm getting tired of looking at the scare everytime I look at my car. The hubby has been doing an excellent job at keeping this at bay, but on hot days this stuff has a mind of it's own.
