Our dealer also ordered and installed the seals for us no questions asked. Very weird.

@Spearsy,

Do you have the OEM arm rest in your car? If so, please do let us know if the chrome ring actually fits the rear cup holder with it. Our car is missing that chrome piece as well, but I didn't make a stink about it because I didn't think the regular version of the chrome ring would fit when you had the arm rest. Interesting...

TheOfficeMaven,

Nope - no arm rest for us.
This looks like it should be really straight forward ...

Peace !

I am pretty sure that I do have the seals, I will double check. But the other day I went through the wash and had soap all the way up the sill. I actually used the free vacuum to get rid of the soap. Then I happened to have some paper towels in the boot so used those to dry it up. I wasn't too pleased to see that.

Not to run this into the ground.
But, I just got a call that the seals are now on backorder.
Hope they come in before the snow flies here in Pennsylvania ...

Peace !

Wow! We must have taken the last ones as ours were just ordered and installed last Tuesday (i.e. three days ago). Sorry about that.

It's hard to figure how they go about stocking things in the various warehouses. Although, I'm guessing NAM could be responsible for something of a "run" on these parts lately.

Peace !

Since they don't appear to actually be putting these on any newer builds maybe they didn't foresee a great need to carry a lot of back stock.

I did some digging and made some phone calls.

Sometime in end of July they stopped putting seals on all MINI's. R56 will not be shipping with the seals, but since the door is stamped with the holes the will be there.

So did any of your phone calls reveal a reason?

It's also strange in that if they are no longer putting them on the newer cars then why are they still OKing the warranty work to have them installed after-the-fact when the customer complains?

Personally, I'd rather have them than not. They've been on all of our R53's and we haven't had any trouble with them over the years???

I picked up my car last night and I asked my MA about it and he had never heard about this before...of course I knew more than my MA..go figure. He told me that it would cost about $44 for two of them to get ordered. I was pissed (since I have read this post prior to going in) and kinda let it slide because the car was sweet.

I am going in next week to get the illuminated sills installed and I wanted to see if I could pull the warranty card on the manager. Is this part covered under the warranty?

Man! I sure wouldn't pay for them. We got ours added under warranty just last week. You should get all the parts with the car you purchased. Door seals and all...

$44? Geez. Talk to the service manager when you go in.

Yeah thats what I will do. Paying for stupid door seals after spending over $30K for a car...not cool. I emailed the manager there so we'll see what he says tomorrow. Should I instead talk to the service manager? I haven't dealt with them yet since I got the car yesterday...maybe its time to meet the person that is going to take care of my ride.

It seems like some dealers are trying to weasel out of ordering them for us. They say something like, those weren't on your build model. I say BS! If they won't get them for you, try another dealer. If you really want them and have to buy them, don't pay $44. You can get them here for only $14 plus shipping...

My car didn't come with door seals and my dealership put them on last weekend without charge.

Also, I did not get the chrome on my rear cup holder so I checked on that too. The reason it wasn't put on mine was because I have the armrest and they told me that it didn't fit with the armrest, so I was good with that!

I would. That's the person who's going to order them anyway. Mine was actually interested to see that someone pointed out something that hadn't come to his attention.

If the email doesn't work I will just call him today and see what he says. Its seems like such a small price for them to pay considering I just unloaded my savings account for the car. I will update you guys when I get word from him.

Well I read the official service bulletin for the door seal today. Basically the seal was eliminated from cars produced from 8/07 and has no impact to door seal integrity. Also since the seal was not installed at the factory they will not be reimbursing the dealer for replacement. So if you do not have them but want them you will need to pay up.

Where did you read this info? Good to know atleast. I would think the seal keeps water from entering, but I guess water gets everywhere. I guess I won't bother the dealer anymore about it....since he never emailed me back. Maybe I'm getting on his nerves since I bring a lot of the stuff from NAM up to them and they have no idea whats up.

I was provided a copy of the actual technical bulletin from MiniUSA (BMWNA).
