It is raining outside... I went out and got the pictures anyhow.
Mine is week 23, IIRC, and she has them. I told you I have a gem.
But even with the strip, you can see that a lot of water still gets on the other side of the strip on the door sill.

This is EXACTLY what I said earlier. I have the seals and the water still shows up on the door sills. But no wind noises, so they do offer some function.

I am getting mine install this Sat at the dealer. I hope this will cure the wind noise I have been hearing mostly during at high speed.

Has dealer offered to provide them free of charge? I saw in a similar post on mini2.com that individuals were paying 7 pounds each, and installing themselves.

I'm getting mine tomorrow morning. I'm pretty sure they are covered under warranty as it is a piece missing. I wonder if the person on mini2 actually asked the dealer to put them on, or just bought them.

I emailed my "accesories adviser" yesterday to check my car (arrived at the dealer but I haven't pick it up yet) and mine did not have the bottom weather strips. He wrote it up to ge them installed and told me that ~50% of their cars had them, the rest did not...What's up with that? And, more importantly, what other parts are being randomly left off our cars???

Good call. I only knew about this because of jw34 and this thread.

Mine is being done this morning. I just dropped it off. I'll post pics after it's done and let everyone know about the wind noise and water getting inside.

Had mine installed this morning. I really didn't notice any appreciable difference in road noise reduction on a highway test. I'll have to see about washing. Let me know what you find aem421.

Took my car in today and MINI of St Louis says there is no seal and nothing should go into those holes because they are there to provide drainage from the inside of the door. "If you put something over those holes, water will build up inside your door and rust your door" When I complained about standing water all over my door sills he said that technically, that's outside the car and it's not a problem.

I guess I'll be buying them & installing on my own or visiting another dealer. Sheesh.

Interesting. Then the dealer of course will warn anyone who buys one of the cars already on their lot (that have the strips) that the doors will rust?

There is a rust warrenty... Really, if that was a true answer, then why would dealers offer to install a part supplied by MINI/BMW made to go in the holes?? Again, back to the question: why some cars have them and some not? I think we should give a call to MINIUSA or have the service writer query their service bullitins.

I wonder if you checked the cars on their lot how many would have the door seals.

Take a look at the pics in post #51. There is an opening at the end of the door for drainage. Your dealer is full of it. They just don't want to spend the money. Every Mini I looked at on the lot had that strip. I guess they are all gonna rust out.

I was at their service location which is different from the sales floor and the only other MINI's around were older and I couldn't look at them because they belong to other people.

BINGO!!! I've noticed this with some other issues too. They act like they sold me a used car.

And if you will notice in the pictures, the holes for mounting the weather strip/door seal is not at the most dependent portion of the door therefore putting "holes" in their contention that they exist for "drainage"! Time to hold their feet to the fire for their answer is unacceptable.

Has anyone had to buy these because the dealer would not warranty them? If so how much did they cost? Has there been any reasons given for their absence on later cars? My car will hopefully arrive at the dealer next week and I anticipate that the seals will be absent.

The R53s had some issues with water being trapped under the seal. Once you install these, you may want to periodically check underneath them for water. It was causing rust to develop on some cars. I dry under mine now every time I wash it. Someone has pics posted of the effect on the R53s.

I think that was about water underneath the seal around the door wasn't it?

Yeah, I was noticing that as the guy was showing it to me, but he didn't seem to notice . . . I guess it's okay if the bottom edge of the door rusts off??? I'm in the delicate position of now wanting to PO the service manager at first meeting. I'd like to have a good relationship with these folks and I don't want to become one of "those customers" over $20 door seals that may or may not solve my problem. I want to choose my battles carefully. He was incredibly quick to point this out and provide this explanation. I got the distinct feeling that this has already come up. Anyone in St Louis have this issue??

No problem, it did get me to read the thread again and there was a post about whether the seals on the doors held the water on the sill. Ughh.
I'm just going to have to see after some washing and rain whether this made a difference or not.
