R56 Bottom door seal
#51
It is raining outside... I went out and got the pictures anyhow.
Mine is week 23, IIRC, and she has them. I told you I have a gem.
But even with the strip, you can see that a lot of water still gets on the other side of the strip on the door sill.

I emailed my "accesories adviser" yesterday to check my car (arrived at the dealer but I haven't pick it up yet) and mine did not have the bottom weather strips. He wrote it up to ge them installed and told me that ~50% of their cars had them, the rest did not...What's up with that? And, more importantly, what other parts are being randomly left off our cars???

Mine is being done this morning. I just dropped it off. I'll post pics after it's done and let everyone know about the wind noise and water getting inside.

Took my car in today and MINI of St Louis says there is no seal and nothing should go into those holes because they are there to provide drainage from the inside of the door. "If you put something over those holes, water will build up inside your door and rust your door" When I complained about standing water all over my door sills he said that technically, that's outside the car and it's not a problem.
I guess I'll be buying them & installing on my own or visiting another dealer. Sheesh.

There is a rust warrenty... Really, if that was a true answer, then why would dealers offer to install a part supplied by MINI/BMW made to go in the holes?? Again, back to the question: why some cars have them and some not? I think we should give a call to MINIUSA or have the service writer query their service bullitins.

THANK YOU GUYS!!
Good Idea!!
I was at their service location which is different from the sales floor and the only other MINI's around were older and I couldn't look at them because they belong to other people.
BINGO!!! I've noticed this with some other issues too. They act like they sold me a used car.
Thank you for posting this. I'm going to show it to them . . .

The R53s had some issues with water being trapped under the seal. Once you install these, you may want to periodically check underneath them for water. It was causing rust to develop on some cars. I dry under mine now every time I wash it. Someone has pics posted of the effect on the R53s.

I think that was about water underneath the seal around the door wasn't it?

Yeah, I was noticing that as the guy was showing it to me, but he didn't seem to notice . . . I guess it's okay if the bottom edge of the door rusts off??? I'm in the delicate position of now wanting to PO the service manager at first meeting. I'd like to have a good relationship with these folks and I don't want to become one of "those customers" over $20 door seals that may or may not solve my problem. I want to choose my battles carefully. He was incredibly quick to point this out and provide this explanation. I got the distinct feeling that this has already come up. Anyone in St Louis have this issue??
