Glass window failed to lower when closing the door today.

I could not duplicate it but it happened once. At first, I couldn't figure out why the door did not close because it kinda just bounced off. Then I tried again and noticed that the glass was too high and it was hitting the plastic trim around the roof!!! I lowered the window and closed the door and from the outside using the key I raised the window. After that, it was functioning normally again. Not good. I just hope it doesn't happen again and also I hope that this incident didn't cause any damage inside the door where the glass is held.

I read somewhere here that the way to reset the "up" position is to have the key on (engine off), door shut, and hold the switch for the window "up" for 10 seconds. Sounds like it might be worth trying for either of you... (only takes a few seconds, what the heck, might work...)

dchautin - try lowering both windows all the way. then hold the toggles up for 10 seconds after they fully closed. This would reset that function on the 02-06 models. I haven't needed to test it on my 07 yet.

edit:

ack dwjj beat me by seconds (try both ways if you need to)!

Why won't the dealer fix it? When you open the door, the window is supposed to go down a little. When you close the door, the window is supposed to go back up all the way. If they don't fix it, I'd be really pissed too. Go to another dealer. That one must be retarded .

Agreed. I'd report the problem and the dealer to Mini corporate headquarters and make corporate aware of the fact that you are raising awareness of both the problem and the dealer's refusal to address it for you on NAM. That sort of negative, yet valid, publicity should get their attention.

I can't believe this is even an issue. Haven't BMWs been doing the window dip for years? (My '97 318is does it just fine every time.) I really would have thought they'd have this down by now.
