Backed up with parking brake on for 6 yards.

The warning light came on to tell me the parking brake was on. This was the first boo boo I have made on Corona.

Okay. No big deal. But, wasn't the parking brake light on to begin with?

no idea. but the light came on in the thumbnail size display screen where my digital speed shows up with the warning chime. It was still too early in the morning.

Now you have nicely polished rear brake disks.

The car will complain (ding and visual alert) any time the parking brake is set or pulled while the speed sensor is not reading zero.

6 yds,, No sweat at all. the parking brake pressure is a lot less. than driving with your foot on the brake.

Drive forward for 6 yrds with the brake on and it will reverse the effect.

If mini is anything like BMW (which it seems to be, especailly lately) - the parking brake is somewhat electronic and doesn't engage in reverse acceleration (but will beep at you).

Jeeze, might won't even move with the e-brake on!

And if you are low on gas, reversing will put gas back in the tank.

Is the audible brake warning a r56 thing? Our 2006 mcs doesn't seem to do this, but if it's configurable to do so, we need it. DW never sets the brake with enough force to actually prevent the vehicle from moving and has driven with the e-brake on. On one car (not the MINI) she drove 20+ miles to school with it on. As far as I know in the MINI she's only gone a few hundred yards. When it happened (just recently), I started to think of a mod for this situation.

You don't need to worry.

My mom drove home from the airport once in an Audi A8 with the parking brake on. Once she got home, the entire house smelled like burnt brakes.

"Mom...what the hell did you do??"
Mom: "I don't know...the car felt a little sluggish though."
"Mom, your parking brake is on...."

Hahaha, it was hilarious.

LOL, my dad has a truck and always forgets to take the parking brake off. He has had the brakes replaced twice because of this.

What kind of BMW do you have that acts like that? All parking brakes I've seen are mechanical (Thus if it's on, it's no, being in reverse, forward, "Light Speed Mode" whatever, doesn't matter). A few cars have electronic parking brakes (Jaguar comes to mind) but they don't disable when you put the car in gear if you intentionally set them.

When I was in elementary school we had a housekeeper that forgot to take the parking brake off going home. Turns out Chrysler Minivan's have incredible parking brakes. When we got home the rear tires were down to the cord's.

I guess the tires had been skidding the entire 2 mile drive home. My parents loved that.
