R56 Does Your Sunroof Rattle?
Does Your Sunroof Rattle?
When I picked up my MINI I noticed that the roof rattled when I went over bumps, since there were a few other issues that needed addressing I took it in for service. After they fixed it it was perfectly quiet but it seems that the rattle is starting to come back. It's not as bad as it was before but you can definitely hear it especially on rougher roads.
So just wanted to see if anyone else has similar issues with the roof?

My last R56 'S' had this problem too, but only in the closed position - yours too?
Dealer had 3 attempts to fix it, the third attempt - the good guys at the garage ignored MINI (who said adjust it again) found two locating pegs that the roof 'slots' into/onto as it hits the closed position. They made a plastic sleeve to fit over each peg/post - problem solved.
Explained this to someone here in the UK with the same problem, they told their dealer and they knew where the locating posts were and fixed that too.
Also. No wind noise whatsoever. (I mean the roof
).
Hope this helps.

No rattles , no noise . Only 1600 mi. on the mini and no bone jarring roads.
The sunscreen does like to creep open though.

Had my MCS since May and have over 7000 miles. In the last few weeks my sunroof has started to rattle on rough bumps in the road. Just the rear sunroof. If I open it just a little it stops, and it also doesn't rattle in the full open position either. Gonna plan a trip to the dealer sometime . . .
Edit: nevermind geek humor :P

my auto is 28 months old. the sun roof does not rattle when closed. there is a little rattle when it is cracked open so that the back is up about 2 inches and the front has not moved backward much. when full open there is no rattle
I've had mine since may, with 3400 miles and some rough nyc roads, and I have NO sun roof rattle at all. Quite as a mouse. I have a little buzzing noise in my dash somewhere, but no sunroof noise.
You bet
RAttle? My '03 is driving me nutz! I think it is the fold down wind deflector. When the roof is closed I can fold up a sheet of paper and slip it under the right edge to stop the noise. I am going to try putting some tape on the edge of the deflector to see if that helps.
Easy fix
4 strategicly place felt circles (like the ones that go on the bottom of a chair.) about .75 inch in diameter. Look for the little mark on the plastic wind deflector and place the small felt circles there. My rattle is gone.
Unfortunately my fix was more complicated than that. I took it in for service again 4th time to get the roof fixed had to have a technician go for a ride with me he found 2 spots that rattled, the plastic frame around the front panel of the sun roof and the shade. So they put padding around it. Now the rattling is almost gone except for when I hit a bigger bump on the road. I think it's the back frame and another noise that I can't identify.
i have an 06 MCSa and my sunroof rattles only in the vented position when going over bumps, but then stops after the first few bumps. i have taken it to the dealer several times and they could not find the problem.
