"Secret" CD changer door

I just got my car back from having the "secret" CD changer dash compartment opened (as well as the flywheel replaced, ugh!; read about it here: #60 & #67 ) and am finding I have to put my weight into it to get it to open. Are yours opening with a light push, or does it just take a much firmer push?

Mine is somewhat firm, but I definitely don't have to put my weight on it. Next time you are at the dealer, ask them to adjust it.

Hmmmm.... I guess someone sporting a Glock might have a different point of reference as to what a "light touch" would be anyway.

The "Glock" comment aside, I have found mine opens easier if I push the door with my whole hand on it. If I just push it with two fingers I usually have to push it 2 or 3 times to open it.

Just had mine 'refitted'. If I push and hold for a second or two it works fine. Was told it would not operate unless someone was in passenger seat. Haven't check that yet. Have you?

No - that's baloney! I open mine from the drivers seat with no passenger frequently. There is no electronic interlock that would do what you were told.

So who was the person with that helpful tip?

Definitely opens fine without someone in the passenger seat.

It definitely takes a deliberate push and hold to release it. I can't just poke at it and have it open.

Which is probably better anyway, making it far more difficult for crook-type people to discover. I'm liking this....

I just wish that mine opened.

When I asked my Mini dealership about it, they pretended not to know that there was a compartment there. "Huh? Wha?"

Well, according to my local Mini service dept, it's a "Huh? There's a compartment there? Nope, never heard of it." duh!
