R56 Hot Bonnet
Arnbut,
Given your heat issues, I think you just might open up a:
Roving MINI Pulled Pork Machine (Smoked to Perfection Either A La Grille or A La Foot Thingy)...Doused with Fine Southern Slather
I'd be first in line

Funny, I thought I looked rather frazzled. It was 100 degrees today--hottest day of the year.
I am SO looking forward to October!

Arnbut - I agree, it's a blast to drive and I want to keep it until it's a classic too. There's just no way she's going to age well with these heat issues. It has a way of causing things to deteriorate more rapidly.
Water boils at 212F and Mini-S bonnets have been logged at 235F. There is absolutely NO WAY this is not a safety issue.
I hope it's addressed by Mini. If not, then by a aftermarket cooling solution.
I haven't even mentioned the heat issues to my dealer's SA. Maybe I'll pop over tomorrow at lunch with my IR temp gun and let him in on the problem.
My wifes Maxima's hood was 136F when she arrived home and ambient temp today was 100F... and she's quite a spirited driver. I know it's not turbo charged, but the Mini-S's are clocking in 100F hotter.
Please keep the forums updated if you hear anything in the works (from Mini or aftermarket) to reduce this issue.

Maybe if the Bonnet were insulated, the above thread wouldn't exist.I say this because my VW Turbo did not have the same problem and was insulated. My SA said the fix for a weeping washer jet was to have a check valve replaced or installed i don't remember which.Q
Blue Skies --- I do have a dandy smoker and a nice stainless grill in back of the house. Come down to the Georgia twisties and I'll fix a mess-o-ribs for you.
The bonnet on my R53 is about 140 degrees after a romp, btw.
Yum! A rib cook-off. I fired up a fine mess myself the other night. A good Texas rub on baby backs: heaven.
