Advise for taking delivery

OK. Finally I am picking up my new MINI Cooper tomorrow.

What advise do you have for taking delivery of the car?

Any specific things I need to be sure to check or look for?

Any programing issues I need to address?

Thanks for any input. My dealer is about 2 hours away, so I want to avoid having to go back, because I didn't think to ask or check something.

Thanks!

If the car is not already programmed to do so, you might want to ask your MA if the dealer can program your car to automatically unlock the doors when the ignition is turned off. I think the factory setting requires you to pull twice on the door handle to unlock the door. My MA told me the owner has complete control over the programming so I would ask him/her to show you how to program the various functions on your car. Also..be sure they show you where the "secret compartment" is.

Here's a couple threads I found on the subject.

I also plan to take pictures of the outside of the car, every panel. I can spot a door ding or slight crease pretty easily but plan to take the pictures just in case. With the camera if you do find something wrong, you are able to instantly document it and begin the paper trail.

Thanks for the links. I had done a search and couldn't find anything.

By simply searching "Delivery" and "checklist" you would have at least come up with this:

This is the checklist I used, and it was very helpful. During this period there were "inclusion" issues about things like LSD and MFSW, so it was nice to have everything to look for all in one place.

i spent a very long time examing the auto when i arrived at the dealer. I studied the underside and suspension; tubing and hoses in the engine bay; veryified every switch, light, and automatic window functioned properly; studied the door fit; and examined the entire body for repair. To do the latter, I tapped many panels and listened to the quality of the sound and traversed the entire body of the auto with a magnet. If there had been any damage to the body or suspension, I would not have accepted the auto. I checked every fluid container for qualtiy and quantity of content.

I brought a check list of ordered features and add-ons and verified they were all present.

I drove the auto around the dealer's neighborhood and down the highway before completing the paper work to make sure the auto drove correctly.

I found a squeaking hinge that was actually dry. They lubed it when I asked them to. I found some other minor thing (can't remember what) that they fixed when I asked them to.

It is pretty exciting to pick up a brand new auto so lists and thoroughness must be adhered to.

Are these cars really coming here with that many problems that you need to check every switch and function of the car? I've bought other new cars before and never really checked anything except cosemetic stuff (interior and exterior). Seems overkill to need to check hoses, fluids, etc. Are the dealers that slack on these? Unless they are actually needing this much attention.

I took delivery of 3 MINIs in the past 4 years and never spent too much time in checking out the car as I couldn't wait to motor off .. but do check as my GP rear bumper was cracked ... and this at the "MINNI TAKES THE STATES GP special delivery" . MINI USA fixed everything in no time but I was glad I noticed it immediately...

and CONGRATULATIONS on your new MINI

I guess it also depends on how far away the dealer is from your house. If it's right around the corner, then no, I wouldn't be checking every little thing. If you have to drive like over 100 miles or something like that, then yes, I would check "everything".

I agree. The closest dealer to my house is 120 miles away. When I finally get my MINI, I will be taking the long checklist.

This will be my first car that I purchased for myself. When I take delivery of my mcs I will check damn near everything, especially the exterior. I just want to make sure that everything is up to par. Ive would have waited this long already to have the car delivered, a few more minutes wont kill me.
