Official R56 Accident Support Thread

So as suggested by a fellow NAM member this thread is for those of us unfortunate enough to have been in an accident in our beloved R56, whether it be minor or severe. Share experiences, recomendations, and vent. Let it all out. Now big group hug...

And I'm not just the founder, I'm also a member! (see gallery)

I agree, this will be helpful...I know as I had a wreck once upon a time in my R50 and all I had to survive the ordeal with was NAM and a big bowl of homemade banana pudding (which was quite good).

Where is that guy who forgot to set the parking brake and had the car back up onto a tree trunk the first day he took it home?

My MCS goes into the shop for a new rear bumper on Monday. I was somewhat distracted from the trauma of getting my new toy broken when a routine medical procedure nearly killed me.

I cracked the front lower grill surround. You can't see it unless you know its there, but it bugs me all the same. I've got the dealer on alert for a take off when somebody gets a JCW body kit.

Start cooking the Nanner Puddin'.
Stopped for traffic at a red light and looked in the rear view to see a college student yakking on the phone approaching at a rapid pace. I got the "Oh shi" out before impact.
Pics in the gallery. Got one of her's as well. I am impressed by how well the MINI fared.

Percy got looked over by the Adjuster. $3,749. That number is expected to go up because they couldn't get the hatch open to inspect for other damage.
The Adjuster has an right handed R50. We spent some time just discussing MINIs and Minis.
Took Percy to a reputable body shop and spoke with the owner. They have BMW certified mechanics and do a lot of work for the local BMW dealership. Place was busy but tidy. That says a lot about the place.
I mentioned that we had ordered the brake light pulser unit but got hit before it was installed. He said to bring it with Percy and they would install it for me during repairs, not to worry about it.
Now, all we can do is wait and hope they finish in time. The big road trip to Reno is close. Real close.

$3,749

holy cow! my appraisal (which includes damage to the hood, front quarter, headlight, door, and rim) came back at $2,903.74.

Note to self: don't rear-end a MINI

It looked like there was no structural damage. The bumper was torn and the black plastic below it was scuffed. Estimate at the shop that 21st Century recommended was $1,500. Estimate at the shop that MINI of Mountian View uses (and highly recommends) was $1,100. The difference has no financial impact on me. I pay the deductible and insurance pays the rest. However, MINI of Mountian View is paying their shop to have my scoop repainted (silver didn't match the hood) so I'm having the whole thing done there. They are a block away from MINI of Mountian View so their access to parts is good.

from a desperate, MCS deprieved man...

I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!

I want my MINI back sooo bad. They just started work today (technically yesterday, but I haven't gone to bed yet). The lady from the shop called today to e-mail me something to sign and fax back, and she said she had no idea how long it will take to fix. BUT I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER. It's already been a week... I was without my Honda for a month and I didn't care as much. I miss my baby More importantly, I hate this rental. Oh well, patience is a virtue...

I'm so sick of this

So I feel like, for the most part, I've been patient these last 28 days that I've been without my car. Yesterday I recieved a call saying my car would be ready today. So this morning I called, and yes, it will be ready for pickup at 4pm. HOWEVER there is an outstanding check for the supplemental in the order of $1081 that is made out to the body shop. That means I can't get my car until they recieve this check. Frustrated, I checked my claim online to find that this all happened YESTERDAY! So after a month of having the damn thing, they wait until the day before it is going to be finished (a full week late mind you) to request for the supplemental check?!?

From my experience (and reading several other accounts), rear-ending a Mini usually intails replacing the entire hatch.

Nigel needed a new hatch, both rear quarters, bumper and various exhuast parts. Took 3 weeks thanks to a very stupid adjuster (what ******* doesn't authorize paint on body work???) Total damage was $2938.79

I got a crummy PT Cruiser for a loaner...what did everyone else get? I can't imagine it can get much worse than a "PT Loser"

4xAAA - hope you get Percy back quickly...I feel your pain!

How about a late model lexus es300 w/156k miles that nothing works in, with tons of body damage?

Go see your MA for a test drive. That might help take the edge off.

I can beat that...

My 2005 MCS was rear-ended by an SUV here in DC on August 7th. Wife and dog were shaken, but thanks to the safety & durability of the MINI, everyone was OK and she drove the car home. GEICO adjuster makes initial estimate in the range of $4,800 for repairs, but Wagonwork of Alexandria VA takes car apart and discovers over $17,000 in damage. GEICO decides the car will be totaled! The 2005 MCS had just under 14,000 miles and it cost $24,700 new.

So, with nothing better to do, I worked with the insurance adjuster to make sure he noted all the options and I documented the high resale price for comparable MCS's in perfect condition with low miles. He came back with a replacement cost of $23,800! Let's hear it for the strong resale price of the MINI! After paying off the note, I would get a check (down payment for the new MCS) for $10,500. And to top it all off... the 17" webspokes and performance runflats were in storage and I had they off-season aftermarket beaters on the car when it was hit. All of a sudden, the dark cloud began to show a silver lining...

So as of last Saturday, thanks to MA Benn Edwards at MINI of Towson, I now have the replacement 2007 MCS and my loss has been restored. Once the insurance check clears, we will have a substantially smaller monthly payment and newer car and two sets of wheels - 16" and 17" alloys.

Moral of the story... if you have the misfortune to get rear ended, you may be glad you were in the MINI. In the end, everybody's safety is the most important thing!

I was rearended by a Nissan Murano after having my 2007 MCS for only 1 month! $1600 in damage :(

Then to add to the damage, the womans insurance claimed they couldn't find her to get aproval to do the work. I had to track her down and even talk to her neighbors. At least the shop did good work. Looks like it never happened.

I had a similar situation waiting to determine liability. Both her and her insurance company failed to return calls from my insurance company for quite a while. But it all worked out in the end. When it was all said and done the repairs cost an excess of $4k

Percy got out of rehab Friday afternoon. Well, for a weekend pass, anyway. The exhaust tips that Momentum Mini in Houston sent were not a matching pair. One was a JCW, the other was MSC. Plus the rear fogs are MIA.
I guess using initials is A-OK?
So as it stand we will be leaving on vacation Thursday night as planned. Even if the parts don't come in we are road worthy. Percy just walked it off and is ready to get back in the game.
I picked up both exhaust tips at the accident scene. They are a little scuffed, but not bad. I converted one to a pencil holder for my work desk. I will re-attach the other if the new one doesn't come in by Thursday. Scuffed is better than absent, I think.
