I hate winter!!!

So I was pulling out of a parking lot tonight and hit some black ice. Bamm....right into a curb buried by a snow bank. The front passenger side, wheel well, and wheel all were messed up. I was only going like 5 mph.

Can't wait to see the appraisal by mini.

without car over 3 months!

I hit a tree that had fallen into the middle of the road (swerved to miss 1st car that hit it and crashed into the other side of the tree since it was taking up both lanes). I have a 2007 MCS, 5,600 miles. The original estimate was $13,500. However, they keep finding more things wrong with it. It has been over 3 months and they are not finished with fixing it yet. My insurance adujuster claims they have only put about $1500 more dollars into it than originally quoted.
I am very upset that it was not totaled.
Any advice??
Has anyone else had problems getting their cars back in a timely matter after an accident? I have been told it is due to the lack of availability of parts.

Seems to be 3x as long as it should have taken. I'd lean on your insurance company to lean on the shop. Are they picking up the cost of a rental?

On the positive side, you're not putting miles on it (of course that's a negative as well!!)

Pics in the gallery. Got one of her's as well. I am impressed by how well the MINI fared.
There was a thread here about the ugliness of our MINI's rear ends. Your's, by far is the ugliest I've seen so far! It hurts just looking at the pics in your gallery! I feel for you bro!

3 months, now won't start

I had hopes to get my car back today. But just got word that it will not start! There is no power to it. They are hoping it is just a blown fuse.
And no, I do not have a rental, but thankfully I still have my old vehicle that I had before MINI.

I posted this a while ago in one of the other threads, but here is our 600 mile, 1 month old Cooper S after a head-on collision with a truck back in October. The car held up quite well, no injuries, and was replaced with another Cooper S!

Also posted this awhile ago. 4 day old (yes, you read that correctly!) MCS totaled by a drunk driver...

Hit with so much force that all underhood components were pushed backwards, actually denting the firewall. I walked away with no major injuries however.

Unfortunately I don't know what ever happened to the guy. I had my lawyer check on it and apparently he wasn't getting nearly as stiff a punishment as I hoped for. Amazingly he had no prior DUI's or criminal charges period. It's amazing how slow things drag on in PA...

I just heard that in early December. Pretty much lost touch since then, as first it was finals and now we're on Winter break. I've been out of the country since December 10th and don't go back until a week from now. I'm definitely going to check in with him to see where things stand. We were really pushing to sue the guy just inflict some sort of damages since his prison time was a slap on the wrist at best. Also I don't even want to think of what my insurance premium is going to be when it renews, so getting anything at all out of him would help.

I didn't sustain any injuries at all so that's what mattered most.

Other than the inevitable premium increase, the insurance situation worked out great. Once it was deemed a total I received a check for the full value (MSRP + taxes/fees) and was Motoring again just a month after the accident. Picked up a PW/B MINI off the lot with the same options my SS/B had, plus more! And honestly I'm liking this color even better.

If HE hit YOU, and the police agree, there won't be any increase in your premiums. He's the one with the ouch, as it should be.

I don't know the laws in your state, but in Texas (according to a hunter friend), you can't pick up road kill, even your own. I'm sure it's not strictly enforced at midnight...

That's true in Kentucky as well. However, once the police arrive, with permission they will allow you to take the deer.:impatient

Great news, I can't believe I wasn't made aware of that previously. The police did in fact document that he was at fault. I was wondering why my agent claimed that my rates wouldn't go up. Figured she was just trying to keep my sprits up after everything.

yeah, good to hear your alright but your insurance definitely will not go up if the accident was completely the other drivers fault.

Has anyone had an accident where the damage was over $10,000 and their MINIs were not totaled??
If so, how has your car held up since it was fixed?

I need a part from an 07+ Mini. Top dash air vent, one directly above speedo. Mines broken and I would need to buy entire dash to get this piece. Anyone know where I totaled mini is or if yours went to a junckyard could I have the name so I can give them a call. Thanks so much guys!

Because, apparently, MINI Coopers have an invisible target decal on the boot. My R50 has been rear-ended twice now (and is the primary reason I'm trading it in on a new R56.)

The first time, a drunk driver plowed into a VW bug (the new model) that was parked behind me. He was going fast enough that he actually lifted it and threw it through the rear of my car. Total damages to the car were $3,650.95, plus $1400 in physical therapy among other medical bills and time off work. Luckily, the guy was a Pfizer rep driving a company car, so I got all that money back plus some in settlement.

As recently as December I was rear-ended again, by a driver who just wasn't paying attention to the fact that I had stopped behind another car at a stop sign. The idiot wasn't even driving his own car and didn't have a driver's license. Luckily again (it's a small blessing to be able to say "luckily" in these situations), the actual owner of the car was insured, though they're dragging it out. I'm still waiting for my insurance to recollect what they paid out and refund my deductible. Total damages on this second collision were $4,065.46.

Needless to say, I'm not getting kbb-value on my trade in. Grr!

ugh.. was hit today. Second time I've been hit whilst waiting at a light. This time, I was behind one of those vans w/o any windows. I was looking at some study sheets while waiting, I look up and the guy is reversing! I honk, but it's too late and my hood is now bent out of shape. I don't get the deal with being hit while NOT MOVING. I must be doing something wrong.

Just remember the rule "if you can't see their mirrors, they can't see you"

Of course this doesn't take stoopid into consideration so YMMV.

Has anybody had success getting their dealer to installed other than the normal stock parts and just paying for the price difference? I'm interested in getting the black JCW grill trim rather than the stock chrome.
