Factory Alarm owners questions

I know there are not of factory alarm owners out there yet but thought one of you mini masters might know.

The factory alarm is the Ultrasonic alarm, i thought this was the same as the bmw ultrasonic that reacts when you put your arm into a car it goes off, being very useful for convertable owners.

Does anyone know if this is correct and my alarm is broken or misinformation has lead me astray?

I wish I could answer, I think there might be some people who have taken delivery with the OEM alarm. I ordered it, I think my Mini was in the second week or third week after they became available. I'm hoping to take delivery in about two weeks.

You must have selected it in section 5 of the online configurator under accessories then? I'm under the assumption mine will be factory installed. Ah, no, you probably went through your build before it was a factory installed option right?

Yup my build was before the factory install option.... :(
I got a sneaking suspicion dealer install will be spendy.

It should be roughly the same price. I think the alarm itself is $225 plus installation and installation from what I hear is pretty much plug and play so I'm thinking it will still be around $400.

My sister's 07MCS has the factory alarm. Yes, it goes off if you put your arm in through an open window.

Strange. I just reached my arm in the window, moved it around a little and the alarm went nuts. I didn't really need to lean into the car at all.

Ok got our SA brian at moritz mini who told me what i was going wrong.

It takes about 45-60 seconds for the alarm to arm for the interior sensor.

Problemed solved.

LMAO. Have you heard MINI dealers want to charge $481 to put on mud flaps?

Yeah it has some sort of interior motion sensor. The nice thing is if you lock the car and press the lock button a second time quickly it will turn off the motion detector in the car but leave the rest of the alarm on. Useful if you want to lock the car and leave the windows open...on my BMW with the same system sometimes it would go off with the windows open from people walking by.

Yes, I've heard of the horror stories, but I haven't heard of anything recent like that. Besides, Seal6's dealer is Rasmussen and they are on the up and up . I forget how much they (Rasmussen) quoted me for installing the mud flaps but it was a very reasonable price. Yes, I know I could do it myself. I put front mud flaps on our R53 but I didn't feel like taking the rear moulding apart to install the rear mud flaps, so this time I chose the lazy way out.

When I take my Corgi for a ride, and have to make a stop on a cool day, I lock her in the car....of course she sets off the alarm. Anyway to lock a car with a dog inside with windows cracked without setting off alarm......

Hmmm...I would think with the windows open would be time you would really want the interior motion sensor activated. With them up the exterior sensors should register the initial intrusion attempt. Wouldn't that be the whole point of having the internal sensor, to trigger if someone reaches in through an open window or for a convertible?

That would be the only reason I would think that turning off the internal sensors would be a good idea. And in that case, the dog would probably help as a deterent anyway (depending on the dog of course ).

To be hoenest, I don't know if the sensor will go off with the windows open on the MINI. The BMW was an '03 M3, so the technology has most likely improved since then. Maybe some testing is in order?
