R56 My MCS is home...FINALLY!
My MCS is home...FINALLY!
As the signature says, the only 'option' it has is the black bonnet stripes. $412/mo for 60 months.
However, it is THE BEST CAR, (let me R.E.P.E.A.T.) THE MOST FUN/FAST/BEST HANDLING CAR I have owned. 10 miles on ODO when picked up yesterday and now it has about 80 miles.
I love the purring engine sound when I just slowly lift the clutch without giving gas.
I have been keeping it at or below 4500 rpm and below 80 mph but it is still a lot of fun.
Can't wait to rev it up higher.
Now I understand why people have complained about the engine oil dipstick
.
I say the bonnet scoop is functional. The grill has openings and I can see the windshield washer hoses through them, which means cold air will find its way into the engine compartment to cool it down a little.
In such a tight engine compartment it certainly gets very hot with the turbo. I love the exhaust sound - The coolest I have ever heard.
I have never had a six speed tranny and it will take a getting used to. Even in the sixth gear I can accelerate pretty well traveling 70mph.
My car is sooooo shiny people keep staring at it. People at work are anxious to see it so I will drive it to work tomorrow.
I insured it today and it will cost me $367 every 6 months...driving to work 3 times a week 15 miles each way. I will drive my beater the other 2 days.
The only thing I would like to see change so far is the fan speed **** and the temp setting ****. They are hard to see what setting they are at when driving.:impatient I like the conventional dials much better.

Note...I did not ask you if you'd named it.
I asked you if it has told you its name. There's a difference. My former modes of transportation never had names either. But LilTiger told me her name 3 weeks after she was delivered.
Welcome to the cult....have some more koolaid. Assimilation is complete

Good looking, MINI. That license plate looks familiar. I got mine from Rassmusen, too. We might see you around in town. Mine is a mellow yellow with a black roof. I have my co-pilot, Molly (pup) along with her buddy, Jamie in the car most of time....
Congrats. Great looking car. Going minimalist has its virtues, the car still looks the same from the outside. Did you get AC? I hear it's topping 100 degrees in Portland these days! And how the heck can you insure it for $60/month?
Hey congrats
r56mini,
Nice looking MINI, great color. Enjoy the drives to work, it should be a lot more fun at least 3 days a week
Nice to see an introduction with good pictures, keep it clean.

Thank you all for the compliments.
I drove it to work today and one of my co-workers was very jealous and nice enough to say that she wished she had bought a MINI instead of her 2007 328xi.
I used to envy luxury cars and always ordered as much as options I could. And I really didn't need to sell my Z3 and buy a new car.
However, I had to have a MINI and I have waited for a long time - about 5 years
.
A standard MCS comes with a lot of things I want anyway - AC, PDL, PW, and CD. One thing, however, I wished I had is CC but I don't take long trips often.
I pondered upon many color choices and CR/B was my final choice and CR is one of the no extra charge colors.
I had to have the bonnet stripes even for $100 extra. (I know I could have bought them for $40 aftermarket and install them myself but I wanted them put on professionally.)
I have Ameriprise for my insurance. For some people it is not any cheaper than State farm or Farmers but for me it was the cheapest by far. My wife and I have three cars and the house insured through them and the auto insurance for 6 months for all three cars is $860 with a very nice coverage. I have one ticket and one accident
within the last 5 years and my wife has a clean record.
I will flash the highbeam when I see a MINI on the road.

Congratulations! Great choice.
The beauty thing about your MCS is summarized best by BMW: it's "The only premium small car". That means you can buy the fundamental car and not add any bells and whistles and still have a car to die for.
You'll find that you'll be adjusting the air conditioning without even looking at the controls so your one complaint will die away quickly.
Cruise control is good, but I find I use it much less on my MCS than on past cars, simply because this car is so darned much fun to drive; I don't want to relinquish control.
You mentioned the stop-and-go traffic. Once you get used to it you'll find that MCS shifting is less hassle than with other stick shifts. You'll find that you'll be able to stay in a relatively high gear and not shift so much because of the low rev torque. Also, of course, there's certainly no need to shift through every one of the 6 gears in most situations.
It's a beautiful car. You did good.
