Front Bra question

Just bought a 2007 Mini and going to be taking a trip to FL from NY. I wanted to get a front bra so the front end doesn't get messed up. Has anyone here bought one from somewhere that has good prices on it?

$400-$1000 installed. depends on whether you get the front end of hood covered as well as the bumper or just one or the other.

Are you talking about the ClearBra, or a black leather type bra?

I had a 'clear bra' installed before I took delivery. IMHO, the best money I spent on add-ons. The stuff works, and you don't know it's there. Much better than a big black piece of vinyl hangin' off the front of the car.

My .02 cents - others may feel differently.

Not the clear bra. I wanted to get the black leather one. The one that covers the bumper and full hood not the smaller hood one. I like the leather one cause i can take it off when not taking long trips. I saw one online for $150.00 but didn't know if someone has a better place.

crpagan, of course you must YOU-ify your MINI any way that you see fit. However, if I may, please be cautious of the leather bras. The paint on MINIs is buttery soft. It takes next to nothing to create pits, pocks, scratches, and dents.

From what I've observed of folks having put leather bras on their MINIs...it's just a recipe for disaster. One member in my car club had to have touch up paint, air-brushing, and professional buffing of the bonnet done in order to get out all the damage he'd done by adding a black leather bra.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your long-distance journey from FL to NY

I've heard negatives on leather bras, too but I can see why you might want one. Most folks (like myself) go w/ clear bras, so hopefully someone else can speak up on other products. A few owners have used blue painter's tape to make a disposable bra for the journey home. A cheap, yet effective solution.

I have both of them. I got the leather OEM one when I took delivery to keep me covered until I could have the clearbra installed.

Go for the Clear-bra. The vinyl bras will only damage your paint when it traps dirt against the paint.

also

you're going to steam cook your paint when the black vinyl gets wet and you leave the car parked in the sun.

Having had vinyl on previous cars, I can say that it will cause the paint to fade differently, and more importantly, the grit that gets under the edge will rub off our paint. I bit the bullet and went for the clear bra on my MCA. It is great. You hardly notice it and nothing can get under it.

I have a clear bra on the front bumper for local use. On hard core road trips I suit it up with road armor(colgan vinyl bra and stone guards/front and rear) for additional protection. Head, fog and turn signal lights have Expel coverings. Windshield has a GlasGard coating. I do remove the road armor once at our destination or when back home. I do not leave the road armor on any longer than necessary. So far so good. PS-the Colgan bra provides excellent bug screening for the condenser, radiator and intercooler

Hey there. I have been contemplating this as well. I ordered Sport Stripes on my MCS to be installed at the dealer. I understand from others that if you are going to have this done, apply the clear bra before the stripes for best results. I am wrestling on telling the dealer to hold off installing them, but then again, I worked it into my package (free installation) and they are 200mi away so if I dont take it I'll probably lose it.

?: What brands / dealers do people recommend? Price estimates for lower bumper vs lower bumer & hood?

Thanks.

Forget about the bra for now, Florida is relatively bug free this month. (not like the last two months.) Enjoy your trip.

Well could not find a bra in time but drove down to FL. and only 1 rock chip. So it hasn't been that bad so far. Well driving back to NY on Sunday and hopefully i don't get anymore chips. As soon as i get back the first thing i am getting is the clear bra.

"Clear Bra"??? WOW!!! That is an EXCELENT idea!! I'm suprised Victoria's Secret hasn't thought of that already!!

As far as "Front Bra's" go, I'm all for them. Much easier getting them off then having to reach around the back and trying to un-hook it without being able to see it!!

Ahhh, come on, unless you're paying a lot of money for some kinda special upgraded.... front end, that prevents the normal effects of time and use, then bra's are a great way to protect OEM parts and keep them looking..... new, for as long as possible.
