Locking doors with windows going up automatically?

Ok, I have the inconvienience poackage,, ooops, did I say that??? couldn't resist

Question: If I press and hold the FOB's unlock button, the doors unlick, then the windows go down, then the sunroof opens. Very cool on a hot day.

BUT, if I get out, and leave everything open, then press and hold the FOB's lock button, the car just locks. The windows do not close, the sunroof does not close???? Aren't they suppose to?

It does work if I press and hold the little button on the door handle however. Holding that one, the doors lock, the windows close adn the sunroof closes.

Why doesn't it work from the FOB?

They cite it as being a safety issue - when you're actually touching the button, you can see the entirety of the car and make sure no one is getting fingers or anything else caught in the windows.

I personally think it's ridiculous. My Mercedes lets me close everything from the fob and I've never de-fingered anyone lol

I have been de fingered it is not pleasant. This is a safety feature by design. Mercedes might want to consider it

As joshK said, it is a safety issue. I think in the European versions they don't have it disabled like they do for the US. But then they probably realize that Americans are lawsuit happy. When we get people suing companies over things like being served hot coffee that is too hot, or trying to sue because they are gained weight from eating at the same fast food restaurant all the time can you really blame them for trying to reduce the likelyhood of someone trying to sue them because they are an idiot, by they, I mean the person not Mini.

Companies that sell to the US have to be very safety cautious. Our legal system allows us to sue someone else because we lack, how shall I say it, common sense.

I say, its survival of the fittest, if you are stupid enough to get to close to the side of a cliff without a guard rail protecting you from falling over, it is your own fault if you fall. Unfortunately, we tend to get lawsuit happy over frivolous things and try to make others pay up for our own lack of common sense.

My Ford F-150 beast does it from FOB. My Audi does it from the FOB. His Mercadies does it from the FOB. My brother's 8 thousand dollar Hyundi does it from the FOB!!

MINI, better update the software to fix this with the same update that lets us open the sunroof with one touch.....

There is a circuit you can add to do this. Do a search for "remote auto up". It's different than GBMinis auto-up circuit.

Thats interesting, so there is a way to post-fit an auto-window-up option to the R56 ? Unfortunately also the euro R56 has no auto-window-up option ...

I did a search but did not find anything. could you please point me in the right direction ?

Remember that with the convenience package the car knows when the fob is inside or outside of the car. If it's in the car you cannot lock the car with the door button (prevents locking it in the car). If it's outside the car cannot be started (prevents stealing the car if you aren't inside. The fob won't close the windows when you're inside the car either, only the window button will as you noted and if it's outside you can't roll the windows up from inside either. It has to be a safety issue and it makes sense. A kid playing with the fob could roll up the windows on someone accidentally. The shtick on the conv. package is you don't have to mess with the fob. Makes sense to me.

I think this is possible with the r53 MINI's but not r56. I really don't know why they don't give the auto open and close feature for the sunroof as well as the auto-up function for the windows

The safetly issue of it doesn't fly, sorry. If a kid has your FOB in hand and is playing with it un-attended, the least of your problems could be the windows rolling up!!!! Especially with a standard car, they could unlock the door, push the stick into N, and away they go....... wweeeeee haaawwwww!!!! Yea, your going to be yelling: "HEY, WATCH OUT FOR THE WINDOWS!!!!" as he's rolling down the hill..... :impatient

MAKE THE WINDOWS GO UP!!! You herd me!!

It's because that MINI has determined that you, as an owner, will play a game wherein the objective is to stick your head out the window or sunroof, have a friend activate the auto-up, and you try to pull your head back in at the last second before being strangled. Since BMW owners are much more serious and would never do this, BMWs have auto-up. Now, get your head back in the window and shut up.

LMFAO!!!!!!

And by the way, the electronic windows ussually stop when increased pressure is felt to keep them safer, and to protect the electric motor, so it's not going to cut your arm off...

My VW worked that way. If someone can verify that it is supposed to work that way I'll stick my arm in there and try it.

Yeah, stick you neck in there and try it. If there are no posts from you in the next day or so, then we know it didn't work!!

I can't confirm it, how could I (maybe an MINI insider can help us out!). BUT, if I'm not mistaken, i think it is a mandatory safety item on electric windows. I could be wrong, I thought I herd them say that on Mythbusters, they were doing some kind of test like this with them....

the auto down from the key feature eats up a lot of juice as it is. i can imagine if it had auto up as well. everyone would be showing their friends how they can make their windows go up.. and down.. up.. and down.. then the battery is dead!!!

Put the key in the door key hole and turn it to lock and hold. The windows will roll up. No need to get back in the car to close them.
