Finally broken in - better hold on!
The magic number finally arrived on our car last week! We took the opportunity to take a very "brisk" drive through Malibu up Pacific Coast Highway paired with a friend driving his pristine '89 Ferrari 328. Now keeping in mind that the 328 is a mid 5 second 0-60 car, we expected to be outgunned. The S is a blast to drive (of course you knew that) and we were very evenly matched to the 328. Our friend was blown away by how fast the S was and couldn't believe the car was stock
. He said it was like a mean "little Bulldog"
. Now it's time to get a Vishnu PROcede and a better flowing exhaust for even more fun! We are thoroughly impressed with this little car and have had absolutely no problems so far

ROCK ON!
Ok, this is going to sound nuts, but consider the source.
I swear by all that is automotive BMW has a flag in the software that causes the whole engine programming paradigm to change when you hit 1200 miles.
Romi is a new car. I hardly recognize her now. Gas mileage went from a steady 26.6MPG to a steady 34.2MPG over night. Remeber, I barely get to 40MPH on my daily drive, which means I never see 6th gear. There is more torque on hand. I can launch Romi without touching the gas pedal now. Never could do that before. The engine sounds different as she climbs through the RPM range.
Where she used to bog down in 3rd gear, she is happy in 4th. She used to struggle to get passed 4K RPM, now I have to keep an eye out as she zooms passed 5K RPM. Getting on the freeway, I find I have to slow down and wait for the nummies in front of me to get up to speed.
I know the engine seating in would improve many aspects of how it all felt, but this just feels like far more than that. It's really bizarre. It was like a switch was thrown.

The same thing happened to me. I hit 2,000 kms (1,300 miles) and every thing shifted. One of my buddies told me that he thought Coop's had it programmed into the brain that it will run much different during the break-in period. I just finished my break in period and all of a sudden, Bubbles is running much differently. And now, I press the sport button and I can barely hold onto the steering wheel when I gun it! Shoulda got the smaller wheels, as the 17's bounce around a lot!
I'm constantly amazed how much power this little car has. Now that mine is broken in, it is a beast. Even in sixth gear, on the interstate, it still has plenty of torque to pass, without effort. I love this car !
