2007 MINI Cooper Classic

MotoringFile: MINI Canada Adds Cooper "Classic" Model
So-what is it? And is US likely to get it? To me-it looks like it gets the new motor in the old body. They're still producing most of the old body for the cabrio, so that part doesn't appear to be too big a leap. A lot of the restyle was due to EU pedestrian safety requirements. It's supposed to hit Canada showrooms starting in July.

4.5l/100km mileage is the same as "Extra-Urban" EU mileage for 2007 MC with the new motor. Article talks about the new 1.6L motor with variable valve timing. 6sp in an MC.

So wouldn't that be a KILLER. The new motor that most people have loved, along with the old styling that many people prefer.

If it also has the R56 seats, it'd be awesome.

I think it's all R56...but it seems to say the pricing is the same as the option package in 2006.

The MINI Cooper Classic, reborn for 2007, not only incorporates all of the new elements and improvements of the new-generation MINI family, but eclipses its predecessor with a lower starting price and an even more comprehensive list of specifications.
The "reborn", the name, and referring to predecessor, along with the fact that most of the parts are still being produced for cabrio... I'm not sure. I think there's a chance that it's the old bodystyle...

Are you guys kidding? The new engine setup won't fit the old body. No way. Next!

No way. Beyond the engine you are thinking they are putting the whole electrical system from the new car in there - the mood lighting, keyfob starting instead of key?

Nope - have to leave this one to the aftermarket.

The classic is just a standard mini that has some items striped off of it. It was made for the Canadian market, this market usually buys cheaper cars than the US. In the US the Camry is the top car. In Canada it is the civic.

The Canadian dealers only get to have a portion of thier sales as Classic cars.

The main difference is limited options and features. You only have 2 options (auto tranny & heated seats/fog lights). You only have 4 colors and roof must match. No other options are offered.

No DSC
No rain sensing wipers
Different interior color
Different seat color
smaller wheels
Standard headlight

Basically they are making some ultra cheap Minis for the Canadian market.

Canadians are cheap. I am a Canadian. I am cheap.

If production goes as planned, I will have my Classic Mini (mellow yellow) at the end of July!

Did I mention I got a set of free pirelli winter tires and rims from the Dealer.

From the article:

Note: The term “classic” is only marketing in this case. The Cooper “Classic” is simply a MINI Cooper offering in Canada with a limited number of options available at a lower price than a standard Cooper.
