My Loaner

I finally brought in my 07 MCS auto into the dealer to fix the passenger door handle, which was broke when i picked it up. Not sure how it got passed the VDC, but it did. I had already waited 3 months for it, so I didn't want to wait another 2-3 days to get it fixed. So I drove it for 2 weeks first, about 900 miles, then finally brought it in.

The dealer originally ran out of loaner cars for me, so i was stuck with a lame Chevy Impala for most of the day. They called me back and got me in this 2006 MC Convertible.

This is the first time I ever drove the previous generation MINI. Can't compare to my 07 MCS, because the turbo is just too sweet. The 06 MC conv is definitely in need of a power boost. But, I gotta admit, I really like the steering feel on the older models. It's tighter with a bit more feedback. Now, the big thing.. I never drove any kind of convertible before, and never thought that I was a drop top kinda guy, but the top on the 06 is so awesome. All push button ease. It's definitely a fun ride. If only it was a MCS Conv instead.

I've had a few loaners recently myself...it is great fun to see how the other half (or something) lives. It's good you're enjoying it...but I bet you'll be glad to get your MINI back!!!!!

But how did it all compare to the Impala?

Yes, I definitely cannot wait to get my MCS back.. the turbo is a world of difference. I'm really abusing the convertible as much as I can, but it's engine is a bit unwilling. But, sure makes slow, mundane turns loads more fun than any other car. It's a 2006 loaner with over 14k mile on it already. Probably really really hard living miles on it too. Drive it like you stole it, right. Still a sweet ride.

The Impala had a powerful engine and all, very smooth power in fact, but it frankly felt like a boat. More than a bit floaty. Wasn't a confident feel with the brakes and turns. It's boot was massive though. Shoulda went to Costco with it.

S325MINI.
Thanks for sharing your insight. It is valuable because you drove both cars back to back for more than a test drive.

All in all, it is kind of funny you were given a Chevy.

Yah, it was a MINI/BMW dealership, so I was expecting to get another MINI or maybe 3-series to play with, but then when I was ushered to an AVIS rental dude and saw those keys, my heart sank a little. In a lot stocked full of fine autos, I felt I drew the unlucky straw. I hung out at the dealer over an hour, just looking around, sitting in all the cars, hoping the service guys will call me up early and say my car was ready to go, but no luck. So after an hour, I took off in the Impala.
