Confirmation of August changes?

OK, I am getting pretty frustrated with the news of coming changes to the Mini. I am, of course, referring to the fuel saving changes and the USB port. Has anyone heard anything from a reliable source about when this will come to the US? I am holding onto an order right now and waiting to find out about this. These changes would really matter to me for a variety of reasons. I guess it's a contradiction to love sports cars and also be concerned about the environment but that's me, I guess. My dealer, of course, is saying to place the order and that they haven't heard anything. I say in another thread that a member named JSMA had talked to International Mini in Milwaukee and they said "08 orders will be taken in December. As for the improved fuel economy upgrades, those only apply to the Euro versions of the MINI. No modifications to the US version are planned right now." So, I called them myself and got a less than confident answer, pretty much " I dunno". I am really hoping that one of the NAM members can provide a solid answer.

I don't have an answer to your question but I can tell you why MINI might not want to say exactly when any upgrades would occur. If they would announce a sufficiently desirable upgrade, potential buyers would postpone their purchases. This has been called the Osborne Effect since Osborne Computers effectively put themselves out of business by preannouncing new features. In spite of this, I'm sure reliable information will leak out. Apple Computer tries really hard to keep future features and products from leaking but there are rarely complete surprises from them.

if your decision driver for a new car is "environmental", then you should stick with your current car, versus having another built for you and the associated energy consumed for that construction.

i did not buy our 2006 MC for fuel economy. we left a one year old honda civic with better gas mileage for the mini...for FUN and more engaging driving.

Enjoy!

thats the thing about these new 07s, they actually get awesome fuel economy. believe me, i had a 2005 MC and it did OK at best. but to contrast, my 2007 MCS on a 25 mile freeway drive (with windows open) got 44 MPG according to the computer. Zman, the new generation of MINIs are all about fuel economy and they are only going to get better in 2008.

Europe is implementing a taxation system based upon CO2 emissions. The more you pollute the higher the tax. August is the tradtitional month for the beginning of the new car registrations in the UK that's why the announcement now. My best guess is we the usb but not the others until such time as MINI brings a diesel to the U.S.

As long my MINI is fun to drive and I get the performance out of it that I'd like, heck it could get 50 mpg and I don't care. Getting good mpg was not a main factor in the purchase of my MINI, that's for sure.

Well, this thread is not going where I was hoping. I appreciate Rovers post and agree. It seems Mini and their dealers are being "mysterious" so as to prevent a slow down in their sales due to customers waiting for the changes. However, I will be one ticked-off customer if I miss these changes by a month or two. Yes, I know the current Mini get good gas mileage but I would prefer that it were the best possible. As for Zman's reply telling me to stick with my current car, well that was just silly. I do plan on ordering a new Mini for the fun factor but I would like it to have as little environmental impact as possible, that's all.

If past performance is any predictor of future actions (it's not in the stock market, but in the car biz, it often is)...

The late 2006 Cabrios (starting September) came with an aux input standard. The dealers didn't have a clue until the cars appeared with this option. I heard about it when cars from September started being delivered elsewhere and folks posted of this discovery on NAM. My motoring advisor told me "no way" - then walked out and checked mine on the lot - then said "Oh, that's a surprise!"

You would wait anywhere from 4 to 6 months for rumoured MPG improvements? Does anyone really think that there will be more than just 1-2 mpg improvement at best in NA models? If you're concerned about decreasing environmental impact why not buy a MC (non S) and a bicycle? Better gas mileage from the car and no need to fuel the bike.

Razzle,

My MA mentioned a cumtomer told him he had heard there was to be a change to the brake system starting in August, but I can't confirm that anywhere. And I can't remember reading complaints about R56 brakes on NAM, either, so that one doesn't make much sense to me.

Way back in 1977, when I was planning to order a Toyata Celica Liftback GT, I heard there would be significant changes to the 1978. I asked my dealer, who told me they will be virtually the same. Although he lied, fortunately in that case, I believed him and ordered the 77. The 78, it turned out, turned the sleek liftback into a whale. Point is, don't rely on MINI or its minion, to tell the truth. If you can wait, do so. If the changes don't materialize, then you can get what you already were planning on getting. Suppose you kept your order now and the 2008 did have the changes? Would that be okay for you?

Yeah, that would be OK. I just don't want to wait for nothing. I would like to order asap. I just ticks me off that Mini has to play these little games with customers.
