What exactly do you mean by "messed with" it?
There have been threads on the topic: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...anmotoring.com

You want to make it sound like an M3? Go big or go home! Make it sound like a Lamborghini V10.

There was talk in a few BMW forums about altering the Active Sound module to sound like other BMWs that also have the ASD, but I doubt you can apply any of that to MINIs. The MINIs use a different ASD module than the BMWs use and there's not a way to "add" the sounds to it. From what it sounds like, the same BMW ASD module is used in multiple BMW models like the M235i, the M3, etc and hence already have those sounds programmed in. It's just a matter of going into ESYS and telling the ASD module your car is a M235i instead of a 228i.
Search for ASD BMW on youtube and you'll see a few examples. I think it takes a subtle complementary sound and makes it VERY apparent and fake.
