Now see, Sid, that's the sort of attitude we don't need around here.

The new forum rules specifically state that anyone who criticizes any Mini, in any way shape or form is either uninformed, uncultured oaf, or a troll.

My firm of Flapping, Bulbus and Sacs has provided market research for the NAM community and has found that 99% percent of Mini owners are genetically superior to non-mini owners.

We also found that Mini owners are more likely to be born with the "automitivus connectivus" gene which usually manifests itself in becoming so enamored of your car, that your ego becomes intrinsically connected to the car - resulting in a complete inability to tolerate any criticism of said vehicle.

What exactly is the point of those who come into a thread for the sole purpose of announcing they hate the thing being discussed, especially when they offer absolutely no useable input?? Like the typical school bully, these same people will no doubt go crying to momma if anyone dared suggest they did not agree 100% with their purchase.

Surfblue says:

WRONG! There is not one metal panel on a MKI Mini that fits on the Rover produced cars. And plenty of panels didn't match as the years/models rolled along. The original MKI's were very primitive vehicles compared to the later models in every way...particularly electrics and electronics.

As soon as a few of those 06 and back Minis start showing up at the wreckers, you're gonna see a lot of those "burbles" stripped off and sold on ebay. I hear they fit the 07's with a little trimming.

Glad you brought this up -

So can someone explain why the new hood scoops are fake? That's a question that's been overlooked. Sorry, I have to continue my "MINI-bashing."

Surfblue says: I'm glad you brought this up. I just walked out to the garage to double check the scoop on my 07 MCS. Just as I thought I'd seen it... there is a low horizontal lip at the bottom of the scoop's lower edge, probably to keep water out. Looking through the black screen, you can see right into the engine compartment across the entire width of the scoop. It's not a gigantic opening, but then the scoop isn't that big, being recessed and all, but it sure looks like a working scoop to me. Let's see where this string goes now.
"That depends on your definition of "fake"" - Bill Clinton (well known Mini Cooper S fan)

They aren't fake; they are real. I have touched mine. Plus, they are functional in that they (now) DO allow air to pass into and out of the engine compartment, thereby cooling it. That IS their purpose. However, the reason they do not duct to the turbo is because the turbo is located down low in front, where it is cooled through the lower grill (as well as by oil). And again, I ask: Why is the "the scoop is fake R56 bashing crowd so willing to accept the "fake" -- i.e. ineffective, spoiler?? And, since you obviously haven't read the prior threads, don't give me that "downforce/handling" line. In fact, the stock spoiler creates more drag than anything else. And what about the chrome so many of you want plastered all over your car? It's not fuinctional and it adds weight. Knock it off already!!

You 've got to love the drama unfolding in this thread!

And the rear spoiler does work. Or are you an aerodynamics expert?

Perhaps you should read prior posts. No, I am not. But I know someone who is. Are you a thermo-dynamics expert?

I suggested we stop giving this guy attention b/c like he said he's just a "passerby." All these questions have been discussed before. It's not being a cry baby to suggest we stop giving him what he's looking for. I'm sorry if you feel we can't take criticism. That's not it at all. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. There are things on my R56 I dislike, and I'm willing to listen to anyone who wants to express their opinions on what's not to like. However, it does bother me to see someone come in here who has no interest in MINIs, doesn't even look at any other threads and just becomes a member for the sole purpose of creating a thread bashing the R56.

I posted merely because I felt he doesn't deserve the attention he's getting. Now, if you want to continue giving it to him, then that's fine. Again, we're all entitled to our opinions and I expect to be able to post my thoughts on a thread whenever I find appropriate.

The R53 has muscles. The R56 has bigger muscles but takes steroids. Therefore the R56 looks stonger, is stronger but looks weird compared to the R53. The R56 looks like a bad acid trip version of the R53. Nevertheless I love both of them.

I guess I'm in the minority that thinks most new cars look better than the predesessors.(Well, most.) Sure, they take time to get used to, but whenever I look at a 10 year old car and then look at a current model year, I find myself liking the new design best. I think most car designers are pretty talented and create good designs.

Oh Crap! I just added to a pointless thread created by a troll!
