This is a SIRIUS question

Now that I can get the factory sirius radio for my June production but now I can't afford it after too many added options already, I want to drop at least DSC to partially offset the cost. Do I need to have the MFSW to have sirius. Thats another $350.00. What do you think.

I would keep DSC & MFSW, and go aftermarket with Sirius. The factory Sirius only displays one line of text, and the "lifetime" subscription that you are paying for, stays with the car's VIN.

My view is DSC is for safety,Sirus is for pleasure,if i could only have one,it would be safety over pleasure every time.Just my 1 cent.Q

Only one line of text?, that makes the aux-in port seem more reasonable, although that's where my iPod is plugged in.

Do you know if Sirius still offers lifetime subscriptions with the portable units?

Yes, last I checked Sirius still offers a lifetime subscription for any unit you purchase.

I'd imagine it only displays one line of text without the navigation system or is that with the navigation system installed as well?

I too have my ipod plugged in, but I bought a "y" connector, so that Sirius is also connected to the AUX input. When I use the Ipod, I just turn the power to Sirius off.

I do not have Sirius but XM. I just bought an Audiovox Xpress to replace my old hardwired XM system in my old car, and the dock for it has an audio in. From what I understand, if there is info coming from the audio input, it will allow that over the XM unit, which would be pretty cool for GPS or possibly for hands free.

Sorry, know you are looking at Sirius, but maybe there is something out there for Sirius that does the same???

I decided to ditch factory Sirius and bought a new S10 with car kit.

Lifetime subscription and sirius units do not go hand in hand. I have been through 3 units in 1.5 years, my friend has been through 5. Just bad 3rd party builds is my best guess. remember lifetime is by the unit not any unit you own.

I plan to put the sirius into the car in as neat and clean way as i can. Hopefully the power wired internally and using the Sat ant that is built into the 07. Prob going FM stransmitter since i still want the aux availble for use with ipod. Unless the installer i am going to use knows a better way.

If it was factory installed and it fails during the vehicle warranty coverage it should be covered.

true, but as soon as that warrenty is out. BAM

If you have a unit that does not go out, its a great deal. If you plan to have the same unit/car for more than 5 years.

I like to error on the caution side and maybe see whats down the road. Plus if they have a newer cooler player come out i can get it. And if down the road the OEM comes down or something I can get it.

So either way have not painted myself in a corner.

I got the Sirius with the Sat Nav and it's friggin' awesome. Two FULL lines of text show up without that annoying scrolling that my old Sirius Sportster did. Not to mention, the Sirius dog appears on the screen also!

With the Sat Nav, you can scroll thru your favorite Sirius stations by saying "Preset 1, Preset 2, etc." No aftermarket Sirius unit does that!

Besides, who wants three clunky wires cluttering up your MINI dash with an aftermarket unit.

Yes, screen shots. I'm still undecided, whether to go with the install with SAT/NAV or the aux in route. The more info the better.

It looks like you already have your 07 Mini or at least have it ordered? I believe the Sirius radio option is only available as a factory install and not as a dealer installed item. The two systems are highly integrated with each other.

You may be stuck having to go with an aftermarket Sirius radio.

My May build is pre-wired for Sirius, so if/when its available from parts, should be plug & play, once the MINI is coded by the dealer to recognize it.

if sat nav was just a little less expensive i would have gotten it, but the 2100 was just too much.

I had to give to get everything else.

The install I am planing will not have any wires showing, just like the install in my truck.

hey how did you get it so fast? I looked into this a lot and is the reason I held off until June to order my MCS. Screen shots would be great.

I added up the pros/cons of the factory Sirius:
PROS: no external hardware, controllable via MFSW (a must but I was getting a sunroof anyway so it was in the package), I can drive off the lot while listening to it
CONS: Maybe the lines of text issue; if something happens to the unit I am screwed (good previous point).

I contacted Sirius as well: lifetime subscriptions can be bought for any unit for $500 or so. I figured by the time I bought a unit, paid the $500, plus the time/money to install it, the price via MINI isnt that unreasonable.

ALSO: according to a rep at Sirius, even though the unit is tied to the VIN I can add a second unit for my other car/home for only $7/mo!!! I was a little skeptical since it seems the MINI is actually the subscriber to the lifetime subscription, but I have an email from Sirius saying it was OK and I'm prepared to use it should there be any fight.

Ok, I'm now leaning heavily to the on board Sirius in my SAT/NAV. Thanks for the photos.
