R56 I got mine!
I got mine!
Very happy to report that I picked up my lightning blue/black '07 MCSa tonight, had no problems with my MA (Otto's Mini in West Chester, PA). Breezed through delivery and tutorial, and the sales manager gave me a $35 gift certificate to go use in their boutique/gift shop.
The wife drove the car home to NJ, then I took it out on the country roads playing with it. Overall, I think it's a great little car. (I hadn't been able to test drive an '07 MCS automatic back in March when I ordered; the closest they had for me was an '06 MCSa convertible at the time.) Lot of fun, handles real tight. Some observations:
Little things I like: The mood lighting (which really kicks in after dark out here away from city lights), the fog lights (which amplify the headlights better than my Element's did), the computer that tells me my average mpg (saves me from having to calculate at every fill-up), the little hidey-holes in the doors and passenger footwell.
Little things I'm not thrilled with: Shoulda got the anthracite headliner. The stock radio (tinny on the bass end). The things the car does after you turn it off (hissing, fan running, etc... and how long does that "D" on my shift column stay lit up red? I got tired of waiting to see and went inside)
The verdict is still out: The sport button. Yeah, I know that it makes the car go faster and rev higher, but I guess because I'm barely even into my break-in period, I was trying to really behave tonight, so no decent test-run on the S button. Yet.
Best of all: It's finally home!

Pix are comin'!
Just got it home after dark last night, that's why no pix. But I'll git some! Just gotta figger out how to work the gallery thingy on NAM here...
My salesman at Otto's was Mike...
And thanks for the advice about the speakers, I didn't realize they had a 'break-in' period of their own...
My only other thought is that the Mini is really inspiring me to drive. The reason this is something new is because I've never liked to drive, always found it a chore to get from one place to another. And while I've always had reasonable, reliable cars (Civics, Tacoma, Element), this is the first one that had me up all last night waiting for this morning so I could go driving again!
I'm actually really glad that I have a bunch of stuff to go do today, just so I have reason to go motoring all around town!

Just razin ya a bit there Maltese. I have to find things to occupy my pee brain, so I harass those who have thier car. It is just out of envy I do so. For I am STILL WAITING ON MY CAR!!! ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!
For the uninitiated, this entry was placed here as a representative whine from the Skuzzy School of Whine. The only reason it exists is to allow the reader to understand the pain and suffering we must endure on our way to happy motoring. Also, we are a self-absorbed lot.

I pushed the sport button after driving about 20 feet out of the lot. I would have turned it on immediately but was too excited to start it up and get it on the road. The sport button is not going to affect break-in unless the name alone makes you feel extra pressure to drive at WOT and take it up to redline at all times. It seems to me that it is really just another little "toy" that MINI throws into the car to add an element of excitement for the average driver.
Thanks for the kind words. I was torn between colors, and finally wound up with Lig. Blue only because I could offset it with the black roof, mirrors and bonnet stripes (otherwise I woulda wound up with astro black). It's nicely complemented by the blue mood lighting inside, too.
And yeah, I'm in NJ, so I'll have a bug-splattered front license plate back on as soon as my registration junk shows up in the mail. I used the gift certificate that my MA gave me towards a nice "Cooper S" plate frame (they only provided me with a rear frame with dealer's name on it).
