The parallels are pretty interesting:
modern day update of a previous model, without being "retro"
Traditional styling cues - triple wiper blades and the white roof (I believe the Blue body color has heritage too)tance.
well regarded handling (on road - MINI, off road - FJ)
color combinations that play tribute to the past (and show some similarities to each other).
Trendy (I hate to say it, but they are. )
Basically, the FJ is kind of an off-road MINI.

I like the styling. If I HAD to get an SUV, this is where I would go.

I wouldn't use the term "mini" to describe the MINI either.

My wife wants the Traveller, and I think that I MIGHT be convinced to exchange my MC Cabrio for the Speedster Cabrio.

I agree, plus that interior is gaudy, and excessively country bumpkin.

The first time I saw the FJ Cruiser I thought they were playing off of the new mini styling, not only color combos, but the simple design and use of materials...

I like the moke one. Looks pretty cool and would make an awesome dune buggy, imo.
