I like the idea of the traveller, but to me that concept is just too over the top. I'm hoping that under all that over styled concept car junk is a nice looking car waiting to escape. Time will tell, my fingers are crossed.

I think I figured it out...
The car is longer, they need a longer factory, longer wrenches etc.... That explains the time delay...
Now I'm just waiting for the new Mini Mooch or whatever it's called!
Matt
ps, sorry for the brain fart! The New Mini Moke. I guess I had Cab Calloways Minni the Moocher on my mind.....

Methinks I now know 1 of the two vehicles which will receive Getrag's 'Twinster' AWD system. They said there would be 2 new vehicles released in 2007 & they've done all that work with the MINI proto. It seems like a logical option for the Traveler... less so for the '07 coupe or vert.
Re: the M-coupe... Cool car, but DAMN baby's got a lot O junk in the trunk! That's one funky looking booty, still like it though.

As for the Traveller, well I can see the market for it but not for myself - I prefer the MINI be at least as small as it is now not bloat up to being the same size as other cars; if I want a bigger car I'd move to something else. A two seater would be interesting though

Mini should stick to making mini cars... instead of going big they should be going SMALLER!!! a 2 seater maybe
BTW... the Speed channel just showed the Traveller while doing a piece on new cars in the Detroit(?) Auto Show
EDIT: It was on "MotorWeek" that they showed the Traveller concept
Here's a more detailed article:

BTW, let's not forget how over-the-top these concepts always are, so I have confidence the actual model will be much more soothing to the eye!

This traveler thing though....well, maybe I just need to see one in person....
Eval, nice butt!
I think that as long as MINI produces the current size MINI as well, that it will be nice to have a larger size available too. Some of us need a second vehicle with more room. Lets see, should I get a HUMMER or Escalade or something? No, I will just get another MINI, but bigger this time.

Ouch!

Dont get me wrong i dont dislike the car. The wife is in love with this car. I am on the fence, I think it is the color that is putting me off. but the wife is in love with this car. So we may be getting one in a couple of years, since the wife is now in love with this car.
Some things to consider:
1. As soon as Mini changes over to the 2007's, there will be a desire by many to get one of the original "new" Mini's - hence our values should hold pretty well.
2. Having an AWD model and something that can actually seat four ADULTS at the same time would open the market more to Mini. I know of someone who loved her Mini dearly, but was forced to sell it because it wasn't big enough for mom, dad, and two kids to all go anywhere easily. So if the new model can help address some of that market, so bo it!
3. I still Mini needs THREE cars - SMALL Mini that is same size or smaller than current, MEDIUM Mini that is a bit bigger, somewhat like this 2007 design so four adults can get in it, and LARGE Mini that takes on some sort of newer form reminiscent of the origina Mini panel van style vehicle (slightly taller, not quite a mini van, not quite an SUV arena)

(from the article)
What do you suppose "distinctively experience-oriented" means?
The new Mini model will offer increased interior space and increased functionality in order to appeal to the distinctively experience-oriented and active Mini customer.
