Hello there. Last week I came back from shopping to my 2010 Mini Cooper S Clubman and the drivers window was down. It was up when I locked the door. The window motor was smoking and smelt like it was burning.

I replaced the motor with a used part. Now that I’ve done that, neither of my power window switches ‘click’ when up or down is selected. Nor does my fog light buttons for front and rear work...only the power lock button works.

I called nearest Mini dealer (500 Kim’s away) and they tell me it could be the FRM module located by the clutch pedal. There is an extended warranty on the FRM module but that’s a long way to drive in winter with the window down lol.

Question: is there a way to manually raise the window? Or is there a relay I could check?

all fuses are good. I did have the battery disconnected for the week while I waited for the used window motor to arrive.

 

are your headlights on all the time? if so, the FRM is dead which is common on our Minis. you can inject power to the window to raise it. check newtis.info for wiring.

 

Hi there. Thank you for your help. Yes, lights on all the time. No signals, high beams, fog lights, daytime running lights. Red service light showing Mini on hoist is showing.

Called Mini Dealer and was told there is an extended warranty on the FRM. They’re 5 hour drive away though, going to contact Mini Customer Service to see if they can help. Maybe they can send me a new FRM and I can install myself.

 

you could buy a used one with same part number and use it to get there. Then swap yours back
