Let my wife drive my MINI last night and she came back with the door slightly open because she couldn't get it closed. The drivers side power window stopped working so when you open the door the window doesn't drop the 1/4 inch it normally does when the door is open. I was really annoyed because my dealer is a long drive away and I have a driving school scheduled for next saturday and I need it working for the driving school. All I was getting was a clicking noise (relay) when flipping the power window switch but the motor wouldn't move the window up or down. In a last slightly pissed attempt, I used my fonzie fist and with one bang, hit the door panel in the spot where I would have assumed the power window motor would be ( I've had to change power windows on my other cars more than once) and surprise it's working fine now. Anyone else had Power window problems?

Do a NAM search on window resetting to read about how it's necessary to reset the window drop function periodically on some MINIs. Lots of threads on that subject. But it sounds like you may have an additional problem...something in the loose connection department.

Yes, I have had problems with my power window motor! I had to have the driver's side motor replaced this summer (to the tune of over $300!) and now the passenger side is going out. What gives?? I've never heard of something like this going out and certainly not in a car only 2 years old!! Any suggestions or comments? Thanks.

my driver window gave out about a month ago. the dealer did replace, but the first replacement was faulty as well. had to wait another day for the replacements replacement. one month so far and no problems for the driver side. i wonder how much longer 'til the passenger side gives out .

I've had 2 window problems.
If you don't close the window all the way the drop does not work.
When it is -47f,don't bother to roll down the windows till after the cockpit has warmed up.Or you will have to pull it up by hand, while working the toggle.
Other than that,no problems

I'm just wondering how long it will take for a recall on this too! And how many people it will take before they realize it.

problems like these are not usually recalled, unless they pose a safety risk. would be nice though, especially for those folks over the manufacturers warranty. even though it was an inconvenience, it was covered under warranty. provided me a rental too. too bad they were non bmw's.

Our passenger side window motor had to be replaced a few months back. Thank goodness is was just before the warranty ran out...still a pain though! Things like this just shouldn't happen to a car that is 2 years old..

Chow!

Wow, you got a loaner?? That's great. I've always had to rent a car when they are working on mine. That's an added treat!
I agree-unfortunately our votes don't count!!

I have an '05 MCS and sometimes after closing the driver's side door, the window will not go up the last 1/2" it's supposed to. I can open the door and close it over and over and the window will not raise. I have to start the engine, and raise the window with the toggle. As far as I can tell, it has not occurred on the passenger side. Once I "reset" the window like this, it seems to work fine for a while and then it will happen again. The 2 or 3 times it has occurred was in moderate temperatures (~70 to 80 deg F).

At least I can open the door, though. That's a real pain in the butt when the window won't drop.

I love my MCS but this kind of crap is aggravating.

I hope things work out for you. Keep us posted.

If the window is not ALL the way up ,it will not do the up,down bounce. If you don't quite get the window up,you can open and close the door, but the seals will not be working. Hold the door open, hit the window toggle up,the window will bounce up,and go back down, close the door.
If you hold your finger on the toggle, you can"feel" a click in the toggle, then the window is up.

Hmm, maybe I'll try to recreate the problem by lowering the window slightly. I thought that when the "problem" occured, the window was already up as far as it could go. Maybe I was mistaken.

Thanks for the tip.

Vibrating Windows

I've had the "herky jerky" vibrating window problem, too. Took it back and they seemed to have just greased (silicone?) the weatherstripping.
