So I’m having a 4th cylinder misfire code pop up but the problem is at start up. It’s like it doesn’t hit 1rpm when it starts so it turns off, bounces around 500 rpm and then turns off, or just stays at 500 but won’t register the gas pedal. Is having some other minor stuff like slow to shift gears.

Checked the spark plugs and the coils. Replaced the VANOS, wasn’t it. Fuel injectors recently cleaned but before this started happening. HPFP replaced last November but the signs for that were very different than this.

my bad HPFP is making that car act the same as what you have...after at least 5 or 6 cycles of shutting down, it catches up and becomes normal.

I also had another mini doing the same because the gas tank purge valve was disconnected.

even though the car just developed this issue, I would remove the valve cover and inspect the timing chain and the timing.
