My irritating key lump would not come out of the hole, so I pulled it. Bad idea. Now the car won't start, and no lights come on. I expect I have to go to the dealer, but I'm giving you all a chance to laugh at me, and hoping for some help.

Since I got no comments to my post, I took the car to the dealer. The battery is dead. Apparently it failed on the way home and, the car was running on the alternator. When I shut the engine off, there was no current, so the ignition switch would not release the key, and none of the electrical functions worked. I still think the "key" is a stupid effort to be cute, but this was not it's fault.
