pumping wont help any ways, ur throttle is what they called drive by wire, there is no linkage to the throttlebody.your problem could be alot of things, try checking the alternator, connect a voltage meter to the battery after u started the car, make sure
+ is on +,- on -.it should read between 13 to 14 volts.if the alternator is charging,
then i think it might be the timing, but your mini is new right?.....

When the car is cold you will get that problem, try to open the switch to PII and let the system charge, dont worry you will hear it, after a few seconds it should be able to start right away.

I have had the same problem, took 2 - 3 trys to start, this would alwyas be a morning start. This problem moved onto the revs fulling, some times so much ot would stall. I took my Coop to the dealer and the throttle housing unit ws replaced. I was also getting the check engine light and ELM (EML????) light come on these were to do with the faulty housing. Get your dealer to take a look.

When you turn your key into position 2, you'll hear a faint buzzing sound... Once this sound stops, start the engine, and I'll guarentee that it will start on the first try, even cold!

I wrote the MINI Owner's Lounge about this today here's the response

RE:Cold Start [#222022]
Hello David. Thanks for writing into MINI via the Owners Lounge. Welcome back.

I apologize for the difficulties that you have been experiencing with your MINI regarding the cold start problems. The good news is that we have recently learned that this can be corrected with a minor software update that will be available at your dealer early this fall. Under these conditions the reprogramming should take only a day or so. You have our promise that we'll do our best to make it as hassle-free as possible and get you back on the road motoring in no time flat.

Otherwise, this reprogramming may be done before it is available at your dealership, but there will be a delay in turn around as the computer must be transported out for reprogramming.

Again, I am sorry for this inconvenience, and if there's anything else we can help with please don't hesitate to ask. Please stay in touch with us and the service department of your authorized MINI Dealer. When the fix is released obviously we will update our Dealer network with the fix.

If you have additional questions, please continue to stay in touch with us via the Owners Lounge.

LET'S MOTOR.
