I change my oil every 3000k but I use Liqui Molly for mine. Burns less and is better for then engine in the hot weather down here!

I do 6 months or 6-7k miles. I don't drive a lot, so it ends up being the 6 month marker. I u send to diy, but the dealer started doing it for $69, which is only about $20 over the cost of materials. So I have them do it and I have some bagel, pastry and coffee.

Ok...so an update to this, I was at the dealer on Saturday for something unrelated (buying a rear fog light bulb). They showed me the computer readout in my car and it says my computer feels my car can go 18,000km (11,200 miles) before it needs an oil change (yes my jaw dropped). They did suggest that that may be excessive and that I could comfortably wait until at least 10K (6200 miles) before getting an oil change. They also suggested as the car ages that the intervals should be shortened, but on a 4 year old mini with 60K km's (37K miles) on it, that only changing at 10K wouldn't be an issue. *mind blown*

Jason

PS> They said some of the new BMW's are at 24,000 km's (15,000 miles).

6.2K doesn't sound bad if it's full synthetic oil. I try to change my oil at 5K just because it's easy to see the intervals on the odometer.

The crazy oil change intervals are just marketing. People don't like taking time out of their schedule for maintenance, or paying for it. Plus the dealer wants to sell more cars and better maintenance makes them last longer.

It would take more than two years for me to put 11,200 miles on my MINI.

Even when I had the three years of free maintenance, the dealer would do a free annual oil change, even though the car's computer said it wasn't necessary.

After the results of my last oil change and analysis i'll be changing every 10-15k.

This was the first oil analysis after switching to Amsoil, just under 8k on the oil and a little over 200k on the motor total. The car was new to me at 192k and I switched to Amsoil a day or 2 after getting it. Been using Amsoil for years and this is continued evidence as to why I always will!

I looked it up, you have a 2003 R53. This thread is in the R55 Clubman forum. Different engine and vehicle.

I don't think so. He just needs to be careful what forum he's posting in and add a disclaimer (i.e. include his vehicle model as part of the post) if it doesn't match. The info he provided is useful it just needs a disclaimer in this forum.
