You'd have to plug into the OBDII and pull the code that is causing the CEL to trigger. Start there and post what the code is. Any symptoms with the light?

It is a diagnostic port usually on or near the wall at the drivers side footwell. Been in cars since the 90's as I recall. You can buy a cheap reader or adapter for your phone. Several auto parts stores will read the codes for you for free.

Yes, and do note that some generic code readers cannot read all codes being thrown. If you plan to work on your MINI in the future as well, it may be a good idea to invest in a good diagnostic scanner for your tool kit. Let us know what you find and if there are any other symptoms that you're noticing.

Get a code reader and see what code comes up.

You sure it wasn't P0300? That code means Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected.

Invest in a wifi dongle, less than $20 and with free apps on your phone you can erase codes. Some of the better pay for apps will likely give you better info.

Check the coils and the plugs, sounds like bad coils.
