brought my 09 S to the mechanic

just got off the phone with my mechanic, brought the car in to get an oil leak fixed, but of course there were more things wrong than what i was expecting. 2009 Clubman S 107,xxx miles.

1. oil leak from the valve cover, the back of the engine is soaked with oil, but the oil pan is fine. Didnt tell me i needed a new valve cover. When i last brought the car in for an oil change at the dealership they told me the issue was with the valve cover and i needed the updated one and the oilpan was leaking.
2. possible turbo issue, couldnt tell yet from all the oil but he said there "might" be a problem with the turbo also. but he needs to check once its all cleaned up. not sure if its input or output. no smoking in the tail pipe so thats a semi-good sign its fine. (OEM part approx $1000.00 job is about 5hrs)
3. vc boot has a tear, least of my worries
4. tried to reprogram the szl module because of the error lights but the abs wouldnt let him, suspects the abs is the culprit and might need to be replaced. told me he will try to do a battery reset and see if he can be reprogram it that way. Car pulls alittle to the left unless i turn the wheel all the way to the left then the right. ABS button stays lit, Sport mode still engages. (ABS part is approx $1000.00, didnt even want to ask about how long a job it is at this point.) heres my original thread https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...placement.html

FML. /rant

So if the turbo needs to be replaced, what would you guys recommed? and does anyone else have more insight on that szl issue?

Well the valve cover itself leaking is a common issue like the dealer recommended a new cover. Just doing a gasket is just going to cost you doing it twice. Its the PCV system in the valve cover that starts leaking and commonly mistaken for a valve cover leak, but valve covers don't leak up onto the top of the cover.

Turbo issues?? does he think it's leaking? Normally it's the lines and we replace them with our Stainless line kit, not usually the turbo leaking.

As for the SZL I would recode and calibrate it first. But really would want to know what the actual faults were before guessing at expensive parts.

just got a call back and the oil issue is the pcv clogged, common issue. so ill be replacing it with the one from the dealership. also the abs is fine and the steering angle is the culprit for the codes thats been popping up. getting that replaced and reprogrammed and should be getting my baby back early next week. so glad its not going to cost me an arm and a leg anymore. but ive read up that a jcw turbo is the way to go if i was needing a turbo replaced. kinda bitter sweet. haha.

waymotorworks- are those the same lines from detroit tuned? i had mine replaced some time ago. but the turbo and all lines were fine after he checked it all out. as for the fault codes, mechanic told me he's tried to clear everything out and tried recoding everything and the issue was with the angle sensor needing replacing. i know im not saying everything he's told me over the phone but im sure he was very thorough from his diagnostics. sorry about that.

mainstreetminis- i asked him what could be possible issues or worst case senarios when i was on the phone with him at that time. so he wasnt suggesting the job, more like giving me the heads up in a "just in case" type of thing.

daddyandmadi- i know now, if my turbo takes a poop, i will be taking that route. but should i chance it with a used one?

thanks guys for your replies!!

im surprised the valve cover hasnt become a recall yet.
