How do i remove the hood scoop plastic "mesh"

Hello,

As the title states, I would like to remove the plastic mesh in the hood scoop and dremmel out the solid parts. I removed the 2 little screws holding it in, but cannot seem to get it out. I heard that the whole hood scoop should come easily out, making the "mesh" easily accessible, but I cannot seem to get mine out.

Thoughts?

I think there are 4 screws holding in the mesh. The pictures in this post show how it goes together.

To remove the whole scoop, there's a screw that holds it in from the underside of the bonnet, and then it's held by six fasteners that you have to pry out. Instructions and pictures here:

Cool thanks. Looks like I just need to carefully pry the scoop off the fasteners.

unscrew the one center screw, then pull the hood scoop straight up starting at one end. like most things on the mini, if it's not moving you gotta pull harder. scary but true. i just left the plastic mesh out, can't even tell it's not there. there are two more little screws once you get the hood scoop off.

Thanks for the info. With but cheeks clenched, I gave it some force , and the scoop popped off. I noticed that a few of the brackets that hold the mesh in place were busted. So I will most likely leave it out for now.

I had a little liquid courage first, not on purpose, which made it easier. Glad you got it off

I put some 3m tape on a avg size flat head screw driver; then slowly working around from center to corners gently prying upward... Worked perfect and was able to easily install aftermarket FINI grille from WMW...

Has anyone experienced any drawbacks by removing the plastic mesh? I’m in California so I’m trying to get as much cooling as possible.

I did mine and the only thing people over the years complained about is things getting in there. I remember one person said a bat once time got in there. Another person got a bag in it from driving.

I had nothing caught in mine.

When I installed my AEM intake, I pulled the scoop and used the Dremel tool to open up the mesh. If you are concerned with cooling, get the GP2 engine under tray. The tray helps create a low pressure zone in the engine bay, which will pull more air through the radiator.
