At 33,000 miles and one day after my warranty expired, my clutch went out. MINI of The Woodlands offered to try the Good Will repair route with MINI USA, but I hated to use my one time only Good Will repair. (Saving that for the timing chain) I have mechanical breakdown coverage on my auto insurance policy from GEICO. Bumper to bumper to 100,000 miles with only a $250 deductible



. $3,400 clutch and flywheel replacement for $250. Definitely worth the $72/ year mechanical breakdown premium!

 

Wait... Tell me more about this Geico deal.. That sounds a lot better than the extended warranty from Mini.. How did you get them to cover a wear item like a clutch?

 

I will bite too, how does Geico service work? I was just going to post a question about the replacing the clutch and when most went out. I know it depends on the driver's habits. I am about to purchase the extended service contract specifically because of the clutch service.

 

With a new car purchase or if your car is less than 11 months old, you can add Mechanical Breakdown Coverage. 100,000 mile, bumper to bumper for $72/ year. I've had it on several cars. They replaced two transmissions and two short blocks on my Isuzu SUVs.
