How do I clear a warning lamp???

Hello,

As a new MINI owner I'm still learning about this car - 2008 Clubman S. Yesterday my wife told me there was a warning lamp on in the tach that looked like a light symbol.

I checked and there was a running light out so I got down and found the lower round trap door and opened it up. That's when I found a lamp connector loose. I plugged it back in and the light works again.

But the warning lamp on the tach still goes on when you start or stop the car. How do I go about resetting this warning? I have tried reading the owners manual but haven't found where they cover this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For the exterior lighting error / warning, you are unable reset or clear that error message without an approved MINI-protocol scanner.
With the error still present, it means the vehicle is still seeing a failed bulb somewhere. Check all exterior locations including the license plate bulbs.

Eric,

Do I have to take it to a MINI dealer for a MINI-protocol scanner?

The warning lamp only shows when I turn the engine on and off.

In the manual it shows that warning lamp as "Low-beam headlamp or fog lamp failed" and all of those work.

As Erik said recheck "ALL" exterior lights again. The light will only show if there is a bulb out. And there is no need to really have the dealer turn it off as once the car sees the bulb out again it will again turn on.

Although the manual only states low beam headlamp or fog lamp we have found that it can be just about ANY exterior light.

EDIT: also if you replaced any lights with LED's then this could be causing it as well.

Everything was alright until my wife got the front of the car hung up on a concrete parking block. She pulled out the lower air dam on the concrete block a little and snapped everything back together before she got home so I wouldn't be upset. That side of the car was where the light got disconnected. The next day she noticed the warning lamp.

I'm guessing she may have done more damage than we know and maybe another wire came off or broke. I am leaving for vacation in about ten minutes but I will give it a good going over when I get back home.

Thanks for the advice!

Thank you so much for the help!

I got back from vacation tonight and had my wife run through all the exterior lights and the front left fog light was now out. I jacked up the car, removed the tire, and then reattached the connector. We turned the engine on and off a few times and no warning lamp!

It's nice to have the help from you experienced owners to draw upon.

Thanks again - Frank..............
