Possible fog light install

I have Justa Clubbie and want to improve night lighting. It appears the lower light hole have a parking light in them. Is it possible to put in a fog light or daytime running light in that spot? I also plan on adding some grill mount driving lights for high beam usage.

Can it be tied into the factory harness using a new stalk switch?

Joe

I have an 2011 Justa Clubman and replaced the factory DRL lights with straight fog lights. The lights I purchased were a universal fog that had angel eyes. I thought I would be able to hook the angel eyes to the DRL wiring but this did not work. So what I have right now is a power lead going to the battery and a switch to turn either the angel eyes or fog lights on. They are not hooked into the factory wiring at all. I am looking into how I can hook them into something so they will at least turn off when the ignition is turned off.

There a links on this site to install. You will have to run wires through the firewall, ie usually around a rubber grommet behind the battery to get a switch in the cockpit.

I had to remove the bumper which was a royal pain and since my fog lights were a universal type, the mounting brackets that came with the lights did not fit the bumper and the factory mounting could not be used. I have them glued in, but if you got some lights made for the mIni you could probably use factory or manufactures brackets.

Also, if you have lights that are specifically made to fit a Mini, you could probably not have to remove the bumper.

My DIY installation on my Clubbie and my next project on the red justa clubbie.. Light mounting braces came from an L type shelf supoport from home depot, wiring from pepboys, hella 500 black magic with PIAA 50w super white, Hella 700FF with PIAA 100w super white. Tapped to the battery with in line fuses. They do light up the night.

On your lights, do you have a link or something to your specific DIY on your lights. I would like to see the brackets. Also, did you have to take the bumper off.

thks

Your problem here with the DRL is that the DRL is part of the main head light on North American MINIs.

The lights in the lower bumper can be either Parking Lights or Parking/Fog lights depending on if the car has the Fog Light option.

Now with all that said there is a way in the computer system of the car from what i have read to change the Parking Lights (called "City Lights") by MINI to become the DRL but this is not the normal set up for North American MINI's.

The reason for this is that US law states the DRL must be part of the Main Headlamp system.

To the OP:

Depending on the year of your car as to how easy if would be to retrofit the MIN OEM parking/Fog light. If your car is a 2008 - early 2010 then the wiring should be there if it is late 2010 or after then the wiring will not be there for an easy plug and play change.

My production date is 2009-09-07 so I should be plugnplay. Is there a reason I can not change out the regular parking lights to foglights? I have no problem with them being on everytime I turn on the parking lights.

That can't be right. I see plenty of Euro brand cars (VW, Audi, Mercedes) on the road with LED DRLs in the bumper area.

This from the Mercedes USA website: http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/vehicl...vehicle-design

I don't have a link, it's actually my own. At the time when I bought my MCS, the brackets were not available yet at any store, at least for the 2011. You may/might void your warranty though,.
