First trip in 2012 Clubman S - mileage, etc.

We put 600 miles on our Clubman S this weekend going to the beach. The car performed well, was comfortable enough and returned 33.8 mpg going 79 mph with the A/C on. That was according to the computer. I calculated 40.0 mpg using the mileage and gas pump gallons reading.

I'm pretty happy with the mileage since the car only has about 1400 miles on it now. Maybe it will improve even more?

On another note, the side doors made it really easy to put our dog into and out of her crate. She was able to comfortable rest in her crate right behind our seats with our luggage behind her. This made for stress free driving for all of us. Nice improvement versus the Beetle my wife used to drive.

Good catch. Typo on my part. I calculated 34.0 mpg. Only 0.2 difference from the computer.

My computer is generally 1.5 to 2 MPG's high. The best I've ever done is 33.1 at an average of around 80.

I have gotten 40 MPG out of my S a couple of times on the highway going thru Maryland and Virginia, at the speed limit of 70. Of course daily driving is 50/50 highway/city and it average about 29-30 lately. Hoping it will go up again when the weather warms up a bit.

Are you running 17' wheels? We opted for the 16" wheels since my wife isn't very attentive to potholes in the road, etc. and I was worried about her bending 17's. I bet the 16's provide less rolling resistance and better aerodynamics than wider 17's. 16's should theoretically give better gas mileage.

Switched out my 16's for 17's a few months ago, and didn't notice any difference in mpg's. The thing that lowered my mpg's was when they changed the gas formulation for the winter...stupid ethanol

Clubbies are perfect dog cars. I have one rear seat down and one up, and my Boston has her bed over the down seat, right behind me.
Congrats on the new S!

Yeah, I'm on 17's. In fact I just went to 225/45's and I'm real crious to see if they affect gas mileage. What I was talking about was the trip computer's calculations versus actual mileage. The trip computer is always optimistic.
