Barn Door unlock ?

I have an 08 JustaClubman with the Convenience package. I thought I remember opening the Barn door “Without” pressing the remote. You know just grab the handle with the key/fob in my pocket and it would “Auto” unlock and let me open it. Am I remembering a wish or should it have this ability.
Is there a program change “I” can make to get this feature back?
help

You may have already tried this but on my 2008 it seems as if I need to hold the handle latch for a couple seconds before it pops when the doors are locked. I have the convenience package as well.

I went out to test the "hold" and held in different methods and times, nothing helped.
I changed my fob battery, still no Joy!
I then had a Duh!! moment and remembered the other fob. same results.
I tried this:
With the fob Locked the doors, then grab and held the handle. Nothing.
Unlocked the doors with fob, the handle Will open the door.
I thought that if you have the fob and the doors are locked, it would "Auto" unlock when you grab and hold the handle.
How does yours work?
How "Should" it work.

I do this all the time when shopping...With all doors locked and Fob in my pocket.... Press the right rear door handle and open the door.... put stuff in, close the door(s) and walk away... all doors remain locked without touching the fob.

Do the other CA buttons on the driver and passenger doors work properly?

I believe there is a CA receiver module up under the frame near the rear bumper. Might check the wires to see if all are plugged properly.

I do exactly the same thing all the time. but it do have to admit once in a while i have to hold the button for what seems to be a long time but in reality is only about 3-4 seconds.

Part of the reason for the long hold is if the cars systems have gone to sleep (which they are supposed to) then it takes a second or for them to wake up and the computer polling to start.

So to the OP yes it should open the door if the doors are locked by just having the fob in you pocket and walking up to the door and squeezing the handle

If not check the wiring to the CA antenna module in the rear bumper area

CA Location

I searched and could not find this CA.
What does it look like?
would it be behind the rear bumper exposed to the eliments or inside?

CA refers to the Comfort Access system.
The receiver at the rear is just one of several Comfort Access receivers throughout the car.
It's located behind the bumper just behind the bottom of the license plate.
The module is attached to the back side of bumper via a plastic holder. It is about 6"x5" and maybe 1/2" thick and has a wire connector attached to the right side. It's exposed.

Found it.

I found the CA "I think"
It had this On it: 6922212 Siemens VDO
BMW 5Wk4 9133

I unplugged it the connection did not look dirty or corroded.
Cleaned it up and Plugged it back in....
Still no Joy! bummer.....
O'well I will drive 140 Miles to Indianapolis to the Dealer to let them look at it. Its under warranty any way and they are extreamly friendly and easy to work with. I need my yearly oil change also. just hate to take a day off work.
If you have other suggestions I will be very happy to test them.
Thanks for the help so far you have been great !

Does engine start with the fob in your pocket?
If not have you tried replacing the battery in the fob?

When I use the Lock or UnLock on the Fob it Always works on all doors.
The engine always starts with the fob in my pocket.
The only thing that is not working is the ability to open a locked door without using the fob to unlock.

So what you are saying is that the little black buttons on the drivers and passenger doors do not work either?

I have an '09S clubbie w/the CA package. The black door buttons work about 95% of the time (both to lock and unlock). The barn door button about 80%. Dealer has "checked for proper operation" twice and said no problems..

I've reached the point where I routinely use the fob to open the barn doors. Don't like the BMW /MINI CA system; our other cars (Lexus, Chrysler) CA packages work 100%.

My rear doors "used" to open with the other doors remaining locked. After the dealer upgraded the computer software after the dreaded timing chain "fix" this function no longer works. I have to hit the unlock button on the FOB for the rear doors to open. I can hold the button down on the rear door for eternity, but if the other doors are locked then the rear will not open. I'd bet your car has the newer program in it.

Fixed !!!!

Update !!
I took my Clubman in for Service. They found the solution, Yea!!!!
The CA ( 61-35-6-922-212) was Defective and would not let the vehicle enter Sleep mode.
With the computer not shutting down it trashed my Battery, in thier words "Exhausted the Battery under warranty code 75UH4-A4CE1".
They said the Battery was going thru some heavy Charge/Discharge cycles and the Diagnostics determined it should be replaced.
Whoo Hoo !!! Free Battery....
I thought it was cranking slower than normal
Now when Everything is Locked, I can open the Back Door by ONLY grabbing the handle...NOT pressing the fob first to unlock.

They also replaced the passenger door sill chrome strip because it was starting to come up and seperating from the rocker panel because of a bad glue joint (51-47-7-238-265).
They also replaced the Front and Back wiper blades.
They also changed the Oil and Filter.
They also Removed,Cleaned,Lubed with Kluberplex and adjusted on the sunroof cassette per SIM540308.
Then "Yea I know this is a lot" they Washed it and cleaned the wheels.

Dreyer & Reinbold of Indianapolis is a way cool Dealership and is Extreamly easy to work with!
They even have FREE WiFi and Drinks, and Satellite TV! to entertain you when your finished gawking over all the cool Mini stuff!
Overall a GREAT day even though it was a LONG drive to get there.

Great info. I'll have to look into this the next time mine is in for service at the end of October. Man it would be nice to have this functionality back!!!!
