Remus Racing Exhaust for Clubman S Review

Since the day I bought my 2010 Clubman S, I wanted to upgrade the exhaust system to provide better performance and to have a little more aggressive sound. I searched and listened to what may be hundreds of sound clips trying to find a system that really sounded good. Performance was on my mind, but really how much performance is there by just putting on new pipes. Some claim 10+ hp…it’s debatable, but that’s not entirely what this review is about.

About 6 months ago I purchased a Magnaflow Cat Back system. Very Nice Fit and Finish, Tips were a little boring and only brushed, not polished or chromed. It sounded really good, deep, throaty and nice. But, I just couldn’t get over the amount of drone it produced. The slight bog on the engine threw low resonating noise throughout the cabin. Overall I really liked the sound, but just didn’t like the heavy drone. I sold the Magnaflow to a very nice NAM member who I have stayed in contact with and will not reveal their name…Brownsugar!

So, that’s when the Alta Cat Back arrived, WOW, beautiful piece of equipment. This looked WAY too nice to put under the car, seriously it is impressive. Although, within’ minutes I knew that this was NOT for me. The 3” pipes just let off what seemed like twice the drone. The sound…awesome under heavy throttle and the fit and finish is very nice. One other thing that really irritated me was the tips turn in towards each other which was against the contour of the car. It looks really weird and they said it was normal, just a cosmetic blunder by the designer.

Now, this week I finally bought another exhaust. I purchased a Remus Racing www.remususa.com axle back system. Remus has been in the business making exhaust systems for BMW, Audi, VW, Bentley and Mercedes for years. They also make the exhaust systems for AC Schnitzer www.acschnitzer.com who is the beloved German tuning experts to BMW owners worldwide.

Upon calling Remus, I spoke to Duffy who was absolutely awesome to work with, we emailed for a day and a half exchanging questions, comments and pricing. He really went out of his way to help me, even from home.

Last week, the Exhaust arrived, WOW, pretty awesome, great fit and finish and the tips are amazing, they look like CANNONS!! I was a little skeptical from the pictures he sent me, and questioned replacing the tips…NO WAY, they’re awesome!!

I headed over to my local guy who did my other two installs for me. He took one look at the exhaust and said…wow, that’s pretty nice, where is it made. I told him Austria, he was shocked. The install took just over 30 minutes, two cuts, remove mufflers, slid new mufflers on, adjusted to get the tips right and that was it. 30 bucks later I’m out the door.

When he fired up the car for me, a beautiful low deep growl came upon us. Again, he said WOW! So, I’m likein’ it at this point and head down the road. It was really hard to keep my foot out of the throttle. There was a noticeable low warm feeling in the cabin and the first thing I thought…oh no DRONE! Nope, it was just right, man it’s a sweet sound!!

I headed straight for the interstate and much to my amazement and HUGE smile on my face, NO DRONE. It was perfect, exactly what I was looking for. No Drone, Deeper sound, Mean at WOT. I got exactly what I was looking for and exactly what Duffy said I would get.

This can still be tuned even more aggressive if you want to remove the stock resonator. Most shops will replace the resonator with a straight pipe for about 30 bucks.

I can tell you this is in the same price range as Alta, NM and a little more than Magnaflow.

I am in NO way affiliated or connected to Remus Racing USA or any of their retail outlets. I am just an extremely happy customer that wanted to throw this out to everyone in the MINI community.

I will be at MINIS on the Dragon at the end of April and will be more than happy to let you look touch and listen. They also sent me a bunch of catalogs and brochures for the Dragon. Just PM me, it will ding my phone and we can meet up at the Dragon.

I know they also make systems for the R56 and R57

As you can see, I think there is some serious collaboration between these two companies...

Looks and sounds really nice , for months I was looking at youtube videos to find a nice looking and sound Exhaust axel back because I don't wanted to deal with warranty and inspection issues and at the same time didn't want to deal with the drone.

If you don't mind how much roughly it costs to put thme on? did you have to cut the original or is it kind of bolt on type?

and one last request, could you shoot a video from inside the car while you are accelerating, crusing and shifting?

Congrats, this is so far one of the nicest ones that I ever seen.

My local shop charged me 30 bucks cash to install. In the original post, You can see in the two shots UNDER the car where the black pipe stops and the silver pipe leads to the y-pipe. You cut the factory pipes and bolt on the new...no welding.

The Remus axel back price is very comparable to others. Call them, they will quote you a price and will be competitive with others you are looking at.

I will get you some inside the car video in the next day or so.

These were the two YouTube clips that helped me make my decision.

This is the AC Schnitzer version that Remus makes for them...

This is the Remus exhaust on someone elses Clubman....

Right at 900.00 or so, included free shipping.

Consider this...

Alta is 1199.00 + shipping
NM is 999.00 + shipping
Borla 1053.00 + shipping
Magnaflow 600-800 + shipping

I'm happy to see someone installing a Remus on their MINI. From what I can tell, there don't seem to be very many people that have one. It's funny you should mention that your installer said the tips looked like cannons, since that's exactly how my installer described them . I love my Remus too. Enjoy!

They make one for the justa Cooper. Call or email Duffy, from what I understand, it's pretty affordable too.

Most of the MINI stuff is not on their site yet. He emailed pics to me before I bought it.

Yes, for Gen 2. I have the newest catalog and the part# is 754006 6598KR Cat Back System 65, includes Front Silencer, Rear Silencer with a 98mm chrome tip. silencer=muffler or resonator

If you PM me your email address, I can email you a picture.

Verify this part# with Duffy to see if this will fit your car.

slimjim, you rock-n-roll. And I'm thinking since it's half the exhaust for the Cooper, it's 1/2 the $$$$.

pming now! Thanks, bro!

Any idea how different this system is from the AC Schitzer one they make? The Schnitzer one is the one I was looking to get for my clubbie, but Remus seems like they'd be easier to find and order in the US. If it's the same cans, I'm all about it!

I also looked at the Schnitzer, they wanted 2000.00 for it. Remus makes the Schnitzer and from what I understand, it IS the same can. I LOVE the Remus tips "Cannons"!!

Looks the same to me...

Just got off the phone w/ the guy at remus. They say they've got the earlier versions (R53) on some kind of close out sale. I was asking about the Clubman versions too, and they still have a few, but are getting a little low. He was checking to see if Austria had any on the shelf. I'm not gonna be ready 'til after I get my tax returns. C 'mon Uncle Sam $$$$ !!

I did checkout the Remus on slimjimtell's Clubman at MOTD. IT sounds GREAT. I am going to order one, not to loud and very euro sounding. Perfect for the R55. Maybe for the R57 also.
Thanks Jim.

I also got a chance to check it out at MOTD. I also got to drive it. It is awesome. Very little interior noise, and very deep outside.

Jim, cut off the resonator. Haha.

Slimjim thanks for the post and video! Because of it, I went ahead and ordered the Remus exhaust, through an online company that I've dealt with over the years, and hopefully will be getting it installed this afternoon! Once again great write up & videos!
