R55 2009 CLUBMAN S - WARM START PROBLEMS
2009 CLUBMAN S - WARM START PROBLEMS
Has anyone experienced a problem re-starting their Mini after shut down?
I have a 2009 Clubman S with a JCW tuning kit (dealer installed)
.
After I get my Mini to normal operating temp (at least I think it's normal - don't have a temp gauge) then shut it down, then try to re-start immediately, the engine turns over but cannot keep the idle and stalls.
Unless I immediately get on the fuel pedal the engine quits. I live in Hawaii, outside air temp will average 88 degrees. Vehicle doesn't even sit in traffic and it will still happen.
Anyway, I took it into the dealer about 1.5 months ago, low pressure & high pressure pumps replaced, tested out by dealer and good to go; now having same issue
.
Any thoughts on this issue? It's not like older vehicles that you can prime the carb or injection system prior to start by hitting the fuel pedal a couple of times before start up.
Am I doing something wrong?
Otherwise, despite the #of times the Mini has been in the shop, I love it and cannot help but to stick with it.

Hmmm. Stab in the dark here, but maybe you're experiencing vapor lock...? Not very common with fuel-injected engines, but it can happen under the circumstances you're describing. I'm also presuming that you don't have any cold start issues, and that the engine will continue to run normally after you get it started ("get on the fuel") when it's warm...?
I'll also confess to being ignorant about what exactly is done to the basic turbo engine when the JCW tuning kits are installed (I have the factory JCW Clubman); are any of the fuel lines re-routed (or supposed to be re-routed)? I'm guessing that the JCW engines (tuning kit & factory-installed) run a bit hotter under the hood, which would be conducive to vapor lock, especially in a warm environment like Hawaii.

I have the same issue with my Cooper S, but I don't have the JCW tunning kit. Its an automatic. This problem has been with me since the second week of having the car. I have taken the car in more than 10 times, and the last time I took it in (just last week) they said it could be "vapor locks".
Has your problem been solved. I do live in Puerto Rico, the climate is similar, but still it's very frustrating not to have the car with me.

Check this thread out. It seems there may be an issue with the high level software.

It's like Deja Vu all over again.

Yup.
It's the high level software. Have your SA get them to roll the software on your car back one version and it'll stop until Mini gets the fix finalized.
