Problem filling up at the gas station

Hi

I have a rather strange issue with my Clubbie. Every time I refuel I can't pull the gas pump handle all the way without it clicking and ceasing to pump fuel (the same sensation that happens when it thinks the fuel tank is full). In order to fill the car I have to hold and find the point just before the click/cease triggers. This often means the car fills really slowly.

Is this something other people have experienced? I'm going to call the dealership this week to see if they've heard of it before.

Cheers

Some pumps do seem to have a problem with overflow sensing. I haven't had a problem with my Clubman yet, but I have heard that turning the nozzle upside down helps on some other cars.

I have not notice that but I live in OR where we are not allowed to self serve fuel. Also the attendants are not allowed to 'top off' the tank after the pump stops. So I buy gas in 5 gal containers and top off at home when going on a long trip. I can get at least another gallon or 2 in after a 'fill'' up. However in order to fill from tanks I have to stick a screwdriver down the little trap door thing to hold it open else gas just dumps onto the ground. Kind of annoying.

Have you tried different station or brand?
Does your location require the fuel vapor capture type filler hoses like in CA?
Had that problem on one of the tanks on my old truck. I would have the hold back the vapor thing and pump most of the tank holding the nozzle with both hands. Turned out to be a problem with the air return tube inside the tank filler hose.

I'll say this -- compared to my previous car, yes, I feel I've had this problem, but typically a bit of angle-change, and I'm back at pumping at full speed.

+1, I find rotating the nozzle really helps with keeping the shut off from clicking off.

Rotate the hose attached to the nozzle toward the front of the car and you should find it much easier to get the tank to fill without premature shutoff.

I found on my Clubby that rotating the handle slighty to the rear made it so I could pump at full throttle....looks like either direction will do the trick!
