Valetine One in a Clubman

I've been researching various posts/threads (some over 10 pages) regarding the Valentine One radar detector. A questions comes to mind that I do not believe has been posted.

Specifically when the detector is mounted next to the mirror in a Clubman (seems to be the most popular location) how well does the rear detection system work given the length of the Clubman and the small windows in the Barn Doors?

Would like to hear from other Clubbie owners.

Thanks
Dennis

That's hard to answer without some serious testing.

I'll tell you this, my V1 has given me a readout rear, side, and fronts when I expected it too (namely, I have been able to confirm it spotted something real).

V1 is mounted on the sun visor, next to the rear view mirror, angled slightly to the right.

To see how much/if the barn doors matter, someone would need a radar gun and do a open, close door to see how it makes a difference. I'd reckon, not noticeably?

It really depends on the signal attenuation properties of the car. I would expect the detector to work properly given the thinness of the skins and propagation of the radar signal.

Mine seems to work just fine.

I get front, sides, and rear detection arrows where and when I expect them. ( Even had a couple where I didn't expect them. )

Your mileage may vary.

Radar should be pretty uneffected by the barn doors. However, the LASER detection could be interrupted by it. Granted getting hit in the rear by LASER won't be very common and difficult for any detector (mounted inside the car) to detect.

Yup.

Unless you're in a lot of traffic, you're pretty much screwed if you get a laser hit, anyway.

The best bet for the V1 and any detector is to be up as high as possible. I love my V1 and it does detect police radar from over two miles away (under ideal circumstances). I have mine mounted right next to the rear view mirror and I have a mute button (bought an ebay power kit with tiny wired remote mute button) located knee high on the edge of the center stack.

Curious about this item. Can you be more specific about vendor or maybe a pic?

I did find this on Ebay and looks intriguing but expensive.

That's just the remote display that comes with your V1.

I've had no issues and pick up rear approaching/situated CHP's all the time.
Mine is mounted drivers side of rear view mirror high on windshield.

No not when I'm pulling the Teardrop.

On a note I was headed down hwy 1 towards Monterey yesterday about 80+ and picked up a CHP approx 1.5 to 2 miles behind me. Would have definately been ticketed, he was coming up fast!
