Removal of chrome around headlight?

I have a '09 Clubman and I need to remove the chrome fixture on the hood that surrounds the headlight. The chrome is held on by a number of clips. How are these clips removed...is there a special tool?

Thanks...

Your thumb

Just push on the tabs towards the center of the ring.

Lagston@VinylStyles,

Thanks for the reply! I'll give that a try.

Would this apply to the Xenons on my '06 R50 as well? I'd like to black them out.

I wish it did.

The 02-06 headlight rings are a bit tricky to get off.
The whole headlight assembly needs to be removed to gain access to the headlight ring tabs.

Slight Hi-Jack Alert!

Lyle, have you noticed a difference in the headlight rings between the new 2011's vs previous years? The dealership said earlier grills won't work on the 11's and that even the hood has a different P/N. I didn't realize thay had changes that much!

I have a spare set of rings off of my '08 and was going to have them painted, but wanted to make sure they will fit my '11.

OK - Hi-Jack is Off...............Sorry about that.

Good to know, thanks! Looks like I'll be leaving them alone or taping off and plasti-dipping.

The headlight rings from the 07-10s will work on the '11s. I've swapped some out already.
I can't confirm the front grille. The upper piece should be universal.
I wouldn't be surprised if the bottom piece is different.
MINI sometimes changes the smallest things, and they'll really throw me off.
