R55 Clubman S Wheel Help
Clubman S Wheel Help
I am at a crossroads and need some help.
I am taking delivery next week of a 2010 Clubman S. I am immediately removing the stock 16" wheels and runflats.
I am torn between 17" or 18" wheels. Can some of you give me your thoughts as for what looks better, rides better and is a better fit for the clubman. the car will also have the JCW Aero kit on it.
I am NOT lowering the car.
Here are my likes and dislikes
Dislike...
BLACK or Gunmetal wheels
Really Harsh Rides
Car looking like DUBS...BIG 'OL Wheels
Likes
Silver Wheels
Maybe Chrome, but not sure
Smoother ride

Sorry slimjimtell just how it is. Smaller wheel equals more rubber and a better ride. What tires you go with will make the difference.

Nice purchase ! Clubman S will be my next purchase.
Since the wheel well openings on the clubmans are a bit larger, wider than the 1st Gen MINI's I would go for the 18's. IMO the larger size rims look better on the newer MINI's body style as the fender wells are larger and wider and seem to fill them out better w/o looking awkward.
Just as the 17's seem to be the better looking rim for the R53's.
Guess it's just a matter of perspective and how the lines in the newer car flow. I have GP 18 inch rims with Pirelli PZero Nero All seasons in size 215/40/18's and the ride is super smoooooooooooth.

17" is the best compromise for you, then. I don't like 18" rims as they have that "dubs" look that you're talking about, and I don't like lowered cars for the same reason.
With 17" you can get an OK ride with non-run-flats, and then if you want you can upgrade your suspension to the Koni FSDs, which will improve the ride noticeably, as well as the handling (in my opinion).

Keep the rims and dump the runflats.....but stay away from the 35 profile tire no matter what Tire Rack tells ya. They fit awesome and ride super smooth.
I would suggest 17" wheels then, with NON runflat tires. If you get a flat it sucks that you're stuck, but it would really help improve the ride quality. Runflat are awful for ride quality.
I'm a big fan of lightweight wheels. The Enkei RPF1 and PF01 are two of my favorites.
