R55 Fresnel Lens - LightInSight - Do you like it?
Fresnel Lens - LightInSight - Do you like it?
With the benefit of the search function, I came across the LightInSight, a plastic fresnel lens. For those not familar with it, it's to assist in viewing traffic light signals which can be hard to see because of the Mini's roof line. For those who have tried it, did you like it or find it distracting at all? Is it out of your line of sight when driving or create any glare? thank you
I've had one for some time. Moved it from my R53 to the R56. Mine is located about one inch below the upper edge of the windshield and is not a distraction. It has eliminated most neck craning. The only criticism I have is that the image size is quite small, and in glare conditions it is sometimes hard to see the traffic light clearly.
I thought it was a bit overpriced, but have found it to be a great convenience.

I don't find it distracting at all during regular driving, but it's there for those times you need it. It may slightly change the time when the sun is in your eyes, but the shade covers it just like it would if the sun were at the top of your windshield.
I've had mine on my '06 mcs for a few years. There is nothing distracting about it and, because I'm so tall, it really helps me see the traffic lights without craning my neck.
I've got mine tucked partialy under the headliner so not all of it shows.
I'll keep it with me for a long time. Love the L-I-S.

+1. The Mini windscreen is short and roof eclipsed, which I like, but the L.I.S. makes it easy to see the traffic lights. My wife, however, finds it distracting, and always pulls the sunshade over it.
I am 6'2" and it was a real pain to see the traffic light change to green. So I wound up getting one. It took a while to sink in that the thing was there and that I should use it. Almost a year later, sometimes I still forget to use it. Even so I'd highly recommend it.
So thought a late teenager in California.
I've been skeptical about the LightnSight, but just ordered one to give it a try.

I'm 6'5" and it has come in real handy. I tucked mine in behind the rearview mirror
and traffic lights show up just fine, on the left end of it. Its totally out of normal view and occasionally the sun can be reflected thru it, but not a common occurrence.

I hated to revive this old post, but I had never heard of this lens before. I know they make them for motor homes - to be used in any rear window to allow visibility of back-bumper when in reverse. Thought I'd post this, maybe others could benefit as well.

I believe they were not available for a while over the past few years,
but now they're back in stock. Still highly recommended.
