Lowdown on Wheel Fit?

Hi All-

I am the proud new owner of an 08 Clubman. It has the 15" "Spooler" wheels. I've been browsing the marketplace and ebay for a used set of wheels to mount snowtires on for the winter. I'm confused about what wheels will fit on my car, and have gotten mixed messages.

Can I use any Mini Cooper wheels or only certain models? Or can I only use wheels from other Clubman? How can I tell?

Thanks,
Ethan

You can use any 2007+ Cooper/Cooper S hatch, Clubman, or 09+ Convertible wheels without any trouble.

Some older MINI wheels won't fit due to the change in bolt size (14x1.5 or whatnot).

Your best bet may be just ordering a snow tire/steelie wheel package from tirerack. It probably won't cost much more than a set of used wheels + new tires.

The only difficulty is the TPMS. If you don't have tire pressure sensors in your new wheels, your car will get mad at you regularly.

Thanks for the reply!

Now, are the pressure sensors something that can be added to any wheels, or are they built in somewhere?

The pressure sensors are part of the stem, they mount on the inside of the rim. Different rims take different designs so that they meat the contour of the inside edge of the rim. I am not sure if they are made for steel rims but i purchased a set of inexpensive rims that were about 30% cheaper than the steel rims from tire rack for my winter tire set.

Just confirm with the seller that their rims will accept 14.125mm wide wheel bolts, there are a lot of aftermarket wheels that won't but are mainly older model ones. As far as factory wheels I haven't found one yet that doesn't accept the 2nd gen wheel bolts, but I could be wrong?

R84,R90, R85, R91, R98, R112, R95, R105, R109, R113 all do for sure. The dealer can always confirm the others for you. Good luck.

You can always get a set of conversion bolts from texas speedwerks that will take it down to the more standard 12x1.5

If you want to do independent research (e-bay, craigslist) the bolt pattern is
4x100.

I guess I'm still a little confused- For instance- this ad in the marketplace mentions that they are for a cooper s (r53 or 56), but according to the above they should fit on my Clubman without issue?

The bridgespokes will fit the Clubman just fine. That is the wheel we had on both of our Clubman.

Was not the wheel bolt difference related to the new, larger wheel bolt diameter. not a change in the bolt pattern?

Yup. each bolt is about 2mm wider. Still 4x100, but weirder

also of note is any rim that fits the R56 will also fit the R55 and R57. the only thing you have to worry about is the front brakes. Some rims in 15"/16" will not fit over the brakes on an S and then many 17" and smaller will not fit on the JCW.

Not necessarily a problem for you if you do nto have a S or JCW but just putting that out there for others that read this thread.

@schatzy62- thanks! good to know.

I'm holding off on this particular set of bridgesports because they don't have TMPS. I don't particularly care about TMPS because I have a spare, but I don't want to be bothered with the dash alert light all winter!
