I figured since I got so many replies, I would write a new thread. MINI has done the right thing, and is replacing my car for me. I am going to look at new ones tonight, and will return mine tomorrow.

I'm really happy they are stepping up. Now you can get your automatic transmission. Mini USA did the right thing for you.

I am more and more impressed with mini USA everytime I hear a story like this. I was talking with a woman this weekend at AMVIV who ordered a mini and was to take possesion of the vehicle in time for the 08 run. the car wasnt ready for her, so mini gave her a loaner for the trip!

And the American car makers wonder why we don't buy American anymore!
my wife had an 04 mustang (POS!!!) had an intermitten trans vibration. they couldnt find the problem and wanted to charge me $75 for the mechanics time!
Oh yea. the car was only 1200 miles away from the warranty expiring. hmmmm.

Hey it is the very least MINIUSA could do. Owning up to their "mistake". After all, these cars ain't cheap and $30K isn't exactly pocket change...

 

BMW had a major class action lawsuit brought upon them for a similar situation with a 7 series. They won't make the same mistake twice and risk the bad PR.

 

I wonder if they'll let you get the auto though, or just an exact reorder. From a corporate standpoint it would just stink of buyer's remorse and using the paint as a reason to change it.
