R55 Chrome peeling off key fob
The plastic chrome rings can be purchased separately for $15-$20 a piece (Don't let the dealer tell you otherwise as some are eager to sell you a whole new keyfob!). It is crappy plastic so they'll get damaged. I have purchased a set of 2 replacement rings. Not only they serve a cosmetic purpose, but without the rings, the key won't slide in properly into the ignition slot.
While the start/stop engine button and sliding keyfob is a cool feature, I much rather have a normal key and ignition slot like in my 2005 MCS. That key still looks new after 4 years of daily use.
My dealership was very accommodating. I am dropping off the key fob this saturday and they will put a new ring on it. It apparently is plastic and usually breaks before the chrome falls off. No worries!
