R55 What year did you buy your 1st new MINI?

We ordered our very first MINI on June 30, 2002. It was a Pepper White/Black R50 Cooper with just 2 options....CVT transmission and MFSW. Waited 7 weeks for the car to be built/transported and took delivery on September 7, 2002. We kept the car for nearly 6 years and sold it to a fellow NAMer out in California on February 2008. The Clubman S replaced it.
In between I had a 2004 MCS (Ordered January 2003, delivered October '03 when waiting lists for the MCS ran into the months). I sold that car to buy a new facelifted 2005 R53 MCS which I still drive today after 55K miles and 4 years of ownership.

I placed my deposit for a MINI in June 2001, nearly 9 months before my local dealer showroom opened. I was the first deposit holder at Crown MINI of Richmond .
I took delivery of a 2002 Pure Silver Cooper 5-speed mid-April 2002, just 3 weeks after they opened. It was one of the 'initial' batch of cars shipped pre-optioned by MINIUSA. My car at the time was near death and the Cooper S got delayed a couple of months, so I opted for a Cooper.
Since then, I've had a 2003 MCS --> JCW and my current 2006 JCW, soon to be a 2009 JCW Clubman.
These MINIs are truly great cars

Because God knows, we need another shade of silver or blue like we need a hole in the head. I think the last time I checked the configurator, a full 50% of the available colors were some shade of either blue or silver.

I was stupid and traded it in on another (and unmentionable) car. It's no excuse but over a short period of tim, several situations occurred where pickup trucks, construction trucks/vans, etc. almost hit me. And I was gun-shy. One night going home from work, two or three trucks/van almost rear-ended me and I told my wife "enoughs enough". Now I look back and saw "WTF" I should have kept her and "manned up" but I didn't.

Remember... Once a MINI/Mini owners always a Mini/MINI owner
I'll be easy on you.

I bought her off the lot in May 2008. She's been with me for almost a year now and I'm still loving every second of owning this car... and making plans for my next one. I'm fairly settled that my next one will be a Hot Chocolate Clubman, but if they discontinue Hot Chocolate... I will join the foot soldiers and go Chili Red with a white roof.

Our first MINI, Zephyr (purple haze Cooper) was picked up in January 2005 as my wife's car. A couple months later I ordered Bumbles (liquid yellow Cooper S) and picked him up around April 2005. We enjoyed a bit over a year with both...
Then we moved to the mountains and convinced ourselves that we needed AWD cars/SUVs, so we traded both MINIs in and got a Nissan Xterra and Subaru Outback. We dispised the Xterra as it was a soul-less vehicle, so a month later we bought back Zephyr (the Cooper) - but Bumbles (the Cooper S) had already sold from the dealership . The Xterra was given back (after a 10k loss).
We found a better house with easier access, then replaced the Subaru with the 328xi in 2007 (really just a bigger MINI w/AWD). Zephyr (the Cooper) finished his warranty and just got replaced by the new Clubman S .
Now we have two fun cars and quite happy , the bimmer is probably going to get replaced with a 135i next year (via european delivery) since we're moving back to the flatlands...
Long story - the moral is, it sucks to be MINI-less
